NHTSA campaign 13V532000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Prevost Cars, Inc.: Vehicle Speed Control › Accelerator Pedal

Prevost Cars, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 29, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 81. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Prevost is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 H3-45 and model year 2009 H3-41, X3-45, XLII Converted Coach Shells and XLII-45 Entertainer Converted coach and model year 2008 H3-VIP coach shells. The mechanical springs used to return the accelerator pedal to idle after the driver lifts their foot off the pedal may break.

The risk

If the springs break, the pedal may not return to idle once the driver lifts their foot off the pedal. This unintended acceleration increases the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected accelerator pedals, free of charge. The recall began on December 17, 2013. Owners may contact Prevost at 1-418-883-2888. Prevost's recall number is SR13-72.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V532000.
