NHTSA campaign 13V473000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Stealth Enterprises, LLC: Latches/Locks/Linkages

Stealth Enterprises, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 27, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 7,056. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Stealth Enterprises, LLC (Stealth Enterprises) is recalling certain model year 2009-2014 Steel Blackhawk, Aluminum Blackhawk, and Aluminum Predator cargo trailers and model year 2009-2014 Qualitec Aluminum Mountaineer, Aluminum Daytona and Steel Daytona cargo trailers manufactured October 6, 2008, through September 6, 2013 and equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. It may be possible to remove the key from the lock in a way that potentially jams the deadbolt.

The risk

If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. A person inside the travel trailer at the time will then be locked in and be unable to exit the vehicle without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Stealth Enterprises will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on November 13, 2013. Owners may contact Stealth Enterprises at 1-574-848-5900 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V473000.
