Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc.: Power Train › Automatic Transmission › Cooling Unit and Lines

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 12, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 600. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. (MFTA) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 FEC52, FEC72, FEC92, and FGB72 trucks. The transmission oil cooler hoses may leak transmission fluid (ATF) due to being secured with hose clamps that have an insufficient clamping force.

The risk

Leaking transmission fluid may prevent the transmission from shifting, rendering the transmission inoperative, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

MFTA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the hose clamps, free of charge. The recall began on October 21, 2013. Owners may contact Mitsubishi Fuso at 1-856-467-4500. Mitsubishi's recall number is C1006410.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V421000.
