NHTSA campaign 13V378000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Altec Industries Inc.: Electrical System

Altec Industries Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 21, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 263. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Altec is recalling certain model year 2005-2013 AH75/85/100 aerial devices manufactured April 2005 through April 2013; and equipped with current leakage monitoring systems. The cable for the current leakage monitoring system may be too long and may breach the gap provided by the lower boom fiberglass insert chassis insulating system.

The risk

If the gap is breached, then the boom may conduct electrical current, increasing the risk of electrical shock to the operator.

The remedy

Altec will notify owners and dealers will inspect and properly secure the leakage monitor cable. The recall is expected to begin during September 2013. Altec's recall number is CSN 585. Owners may contact Altec at 1-877-462-5832.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V378000.
