Aluminum Trailer Company: Equipment
Aluminum Trailer Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 20, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 17. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Aluminum Trailer Company (ATC) is recalling certain model year 2013 Quest trailers manufactured February 26, 2013, through April 10, 2013. Due to a design change in the Dometic-brand power awning motor assembly, the motor assembly screws may unknowingly shear.
The risk
If the motor assembly screws shear, it is possible that the awning can unfurl unexpectedly, either while the vehicle is at rest or while in transit, increasing the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash.
The remedy
ATC will notify owners, and Dometic staff will replace the affected motors with one of a different design. The recall began on September 6, 2013. Owners may contact ATC at 1-574-773-8360 or Dometic at 1-888-447-0003 for more information. Owners are being instructed not to drive their vehicle until repairs can be performed.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V376000.
