NHTSA campaign 13V352000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Spartan ERV: Equipment

Spartan ERV reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 12, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 159. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Spartan ERV (Spartan) is recalling certain model year 2005-2012 Star Series emergency vehicles manufactured February 1, 2007, through May 31, 2013 and equipped with a hydraulic ladder rack. The pins which hold the ladder in place may back out over time.

The risk

If the pins back out the ladder and ladder rack arm assembly may collapse, increasing the risk of personal injury.

The remedy

Spartan will notify owners, and will install spacers and locking nuts to prevent the pins from backing out, free of charge. The recall began on September 25, 2013. Owners may contact Spartan ERV at 1-800-867-6478, Option 2.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V352000.
