NHTSA campaign 13V343000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Vermeer Manufacturing Company: Service Brakes, Air

Vermeer Manufacturing Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 5, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 30. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Vermeer Manufacturing Company (Vermeer) is recalling certain model year 2010-2013 R9x12T drilling fluid reclaimer trailers manufactured January 31, 2010, through July 2, 2013. The air brake hose may become pinched or chafed on the axle support plate.

The risk

As a result, the air brake line could become damaged, causing a loss of air pressure to the air brake system and a loss of service brakes or preventing the parking brake from releasing, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Vermeer will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the air brake hose clearance. If there is insufficient clearance, the rear cross member will be moved, free of charge. The recall began on September 25, 2013. Owners may contact Vermeer at 1-641-628-3141. Vermeer's recall number is IK00-1851.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V343000.
