NHTSA campaign 13V215000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Triumph Motorcycles America, LTD: Vehicle Speed Control › Cables

Triumph Motorcycles America, LTD reported this defect to federal regulators on May 21, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 652. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Triumph Motorcycles (Triumph) is recalling certain model year 2012 Street Triple motorcycles manufactured from June 2012 through November 2012; and model year 2012 Daytona 675 motorcycles manufactured July 2012 through October 2012. The motorcycles may have been assembled without a guide for the throttle cables.

The risk

Without the guide, the cables may move freely and become trapped in the steering stop, impeding the steering operation and affecting the driver's ability to control the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Triumph will notify owners, and dealers will install a throttle cable guide free of charge. The recall began on May 30, 2013. Owners may contact Triumph at 1-678-854-2010 for more information.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V215000.
