NHTSA campaign 13V204000 · Part 573 safety recall report

John Evans Manufacturing Co.: Wheels › Lugs/Nuts/Bolts/Studs

John Evans Manufacturing Co. reported this defect to federal regulators on May 15, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 380. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

John Evans Manufacturing Co. (John Evans) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 chassis and trailers; model year 2013-2014 remanufactured chassis and trailers, and model year 2013-2014 Cheetah Chassis and trailers. The affected products were manufactured September 5, 2012, through April 19, 2013. The wheel lug nuts may not be properly torqued.

The risk

Insufficient torque on the wheel lug nuts could lead to separation of the wheels from the chassis or trailer, which may increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

John Evans will notify owners, and dealers will inspect each trailer. The affected trailers will have the lug nuts re-torqued, free of charge. The recall began on May 30, 2013. Owners may contact John Evans customer service at 1-803-436-3102.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V204000.
