NHTSA campaign 13V201000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Terex South Dakota, Inc.: Equipment

Terex South Dakota, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on May 14, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 118. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Terex is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Aerial Devices and Digger Derricks manufactured September 2012 through February 2013. The lock valve cavity in the outrigger cylinder may be machined incorrectly and the seals may be damaged.

The risk

Damaged seals may allow the outrigger to drift. If the outrigger cylinder drifts, stability may be affected and the unit may overturn, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Terex will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the affected outriggers to determine if they were machined correctly. The inspection and any necessary repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on May 30, 2013. Owners may contact Terex at 1-605-884-3892. Terex's recall campaign number is SN607.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V201000.
