Altec Industries Inc.: Equipment
Altec Industries Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on May 10, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 56. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Altec is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 AC35/38 cranes equipped with 31-55 foot telescopic jibs built between 2010 and 2011. The jib attachment bracket is not sufficient for loads that can occur when the fully extended jib is lifted off the ground.
The risk
If the jib fails while the crane is in operation, it could pose a risk of injury to people in close proximity.
The remedy
Altec will notify owners and dealers will install jib bracket reinforcement kits. Dealers will also install a kit to repair any jib bracket that is damaged. The recall began on July 8, 2013. Owners may contact Altec at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's recall campaign number is CSN 576.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V193000.
