NHTSA campaign 13V149000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Prevost Cars, Inc.: Power Train › Automatic Transmission › Control Module (tcm/Pcm/Tecm)

Prevost Cars, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 19, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Prevost is recalling one model year 2013 H3-45 coach bus manufactured November 14, 2011, through July 3, 2012. In the affected bus, the transmission has the wrong software and may not lock to prevent movement while the wheelchair lift door is open. Thus, this bus fails to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 403, "Platform Lift Systems for Motor Vehicles."

The risk

Without the transmission locking to prevent movement, if the parking brake lock fails while the wheelchair lift door is open, the bus may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Prevost has notified the owner, and the transmission is being reprogrammed, free of charge. Owners may contact Prevost at 1-418-883-2888 x 6558. Prevost's campaign recall number is SR13-25.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V149000.
