Vactor Manufacturing: Equipment
Vactor Manufacturing reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 3, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 22. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Vactor Manufacturing (Vactor) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 HXX and Guzzler vacuum trucks equipped with an Alkota water heater. These trucks were not equipped with an oil primary control. If the burner for the water heater fails to ignite normally, fuel can accumulate in the water heater combustion chamber.
The risk
If fuel accumulates, when the burner is lit, there may be a larger than normal flame which could lead to a vehicle fire.
The remedy
Vactor will notify owners, and dealers will replace the burner assembly, free of charge. The recall began during April 2013. Customers may contact Vactor at 1-815-672-3171. Vactor's recall number is SB-263.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V119000.
