Fontaine Heavy-Haul: Equipment
Fontaine Heavy-Haul reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 22, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 78. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Fontaine Trailer Company, dba Fontaine Heavy-Haul, is recalling certain model year 2013 Renegade LX40 and LXT40 lowbed trailers manufactured between August 2012 and November 2012. The combo eye plate that connects the gooseneck portion of the trailer to the deck portion of the trailer may crack and ultimately fracture and thereby fail to maintain the load carrying capabilities as designed.
The risk
In the event of a combo eye plate crack and failure, the deck of the trailer could tilt and impact the highway, stopping the vehicle unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Fontaine Heavy-Haul will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace any defective components free of charge. The recall began on March 11, 2013. Owners may contact Fontaine Heavy-Haul at 1-866-382-7278, option 2, ext. 819.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V076000.
