NHTSA campaign 13V073000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Daimler Trucks North America: Fuel System, Gasoline › Storage › Tank Assembly

Daimler Trucks North America reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 4, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 3,207. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 MT45G and MT55G van chassis manufactured from February 15, 2010, through September 3, 2013. These vehicles have gasoline fuel tanks that may experience cracks in the welds and tank material.

The risk

Cracks in the fuel tanks could lead to a leakage of gasoline and vapors. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may lead to a vehicle fire.

The remedy

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace any of the affected fuel tanks free of charge. The recall began on December 16, 2013. Owners may contact DTNA at 1-800-447-4986.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V073000.
