NHTSA campaign 13V053000 · Part 573 safety recall report

UD Trucks Corporation: Power Train › Automatic Transmission › Cooling Unit and Lines

UD Trucks Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 19, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 296. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

UD Trucks is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 UD2600 and UD3300 trucks equipped with Allison 3000RDS automatic transmissions. The oil cooler hose clamp retaining rings may fail.

The risk

If the retaining ring fails, the oil cooler hose may leak, leaving a large deposit on the roadway, which may present a hazard to other vehicles. If any of the oil sprays onto hot engine components, there would be an increased risk of a vehicle fire.

The remedy

UD Trucks will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected hoses free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact UD Trucks at 1-800-832-5929.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V053000.
