NHTSA campaign 13V046000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Spartan ERV: Equipment › Mechanical

Spartan ERV reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 11, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 26. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Spartan is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 RMP 100 and 2008-2010 MMP 100 aerial vehicle apparatus. These vehicles are equipped with a single platform inclinometer that may provide an intermittent signal allowing the platform to be tilted more than below the horizontal plane.

The risk

The intermittent signal may allow the aerial platform to be tilted more than below the horizontal plane which could allow the platform to strike nearby objects or people increasing the risk of injury or property damage.

The remedy

Spartan will notify the owners, and dealers will replace the single inclinometer with a dual inclinometer installed in a sealed enclosure, free of charge. The recall began on February 25, 2013. Owners may contact Spartan at 1-800-867-6478, Option 2.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V046000.
