NHTSA campaign 13V021000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Prevost Cars, Inc.: Exterior Lighting

Prevost Cars, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 22, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 45. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Prevost is recalling certain model year 2013 X3-45, H3-45, and XLII-45 Entertainer coach buses and coach bus shells manufactured September 25, 2012, through January 9, 2013, for failing to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The buses may have missing side reflectors.

The risk

The absence of reflectors could reduce the ability for others to see the bus, increasing the risk that another vehicle may crash into the bus.

The remedy

Prevost will notify owners, and dealers will add side reflectors, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2013. Owners may contact Prevost at 1-418-883-2888 x 6558.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V021000.
