NHTSA campaign 13V012000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Braun Corporation: Vehicle Speed Control › Accelerator Pedal

Braun Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 11, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 732. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Braun is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Rampvan vehicles manufactured from May 8, 2012, through January 3, 2013. Braun Rampvans are Toyota Sienna minivans that have been modified for special use. The Braun-specific toe pan panel comes in close proximity to the accelerator pedal lever. There could be an interference of the toe panel pan and the accelerator pedal lever.

The risk

If there is interference, the pedal may not return to the idle position which may produce unintended acceleration. This could increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

The remedy

Braun will notify owners, and Braun dealers will modify the toe panel plastic as needed, free of charge. The recall began on February 7, 2013. This recall is being conducted by Braun and not by Toyota. Owners may contact Braun customer service center at 1-800-488-0359.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V012000.
