Temsa Global Sanayi Ve Ticaret A.S. reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 23, 2012 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 71. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Temsa Global is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 TS35 buses for failing to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release." The buses may have one too few emergency exits on each side of the bus for the number of seats that the bus is equipped with.

The risk

Passengers may be delayed in exiting the vehicle during an emergency which can increase the risk of personal injury.

The remedy

Temsa will notify owners, and will install a third emergency exit window on each side side of the bus, free of charge. The recall began on January 3, 2013. Owners may contact Temsa at 1-404-602-0151.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 12V544000.
