NHTSA campaign 12V524000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc.: Fuel System, Other › Fuel Filter

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 25, 2012 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 6,520. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America (MFTA) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 FEC52, FEC72, FEC92, and FGB72 trucks. The fuel line may disconnect from the fuel filter head due to an improperly machined connector.

The risk

As the fuel line loosens and detaches it may leak fuel. Leaking fuel in the presence of an ignition source such as high temperature components may increase the risk of a fire.

The remedy

MFTA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the affected fuel filter head, free of charge. The safety recall began on December 19, 2012. Owners may contact MFTA at 1-856-467-4500.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 12V524000.
