Van Hool N.V.: Fuel System, Other › Fuel Filter
Van Hool N.V. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 18, 2012 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 136. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Van Hool is recalling certain model year 2012 TD925 motorcoaches, manufactured from October 2011, through July 2012, equipped with a Cummins ISX engine and a Fuel Pro fuel filter located behind the left tag axle tire. In the event of a left tag axle tire blow out, debris from the blown tire may damage the Fuel Pro fuel filter compartment base plate.
The risk
Damage to the base plate may lead to a fuel leak inside the engine compartment. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, may result in a vehicle fire.
The remedy
Van Hool through their US agent, ABC Bus, Inc., will notify owners, and dealers will install a thicker base plate to protect the fuel filter, free of charge. The safety recall began on December 13, 2012. Owners may contact ABC Bus, Inc. toll free at 1-877-427-7278.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 12V505000.
