NHTSA campaign 12V498000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Jayco, Inc.: Equipment › Other › Labels

Jayco, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 16, 2012 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 40. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Jayco is recalling certain model year 2013 Eagle Premier Fifth Wheel recreational vehicle trailers, manufactured from June 14, 2012, through August 10, 2012. These vehicles were manufactured with incorrect information on the Recreational Vehicle Cargo Carrying Capacity Label. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 120, "Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicles Other Than Passenger Cars."

The risk

An inaccurate label could lead to owners overloading their vehicles and tires. An overloaded vehicle can result in a tire failure which may result in a vehicle crash, personal injury, or property damage.

The remedy

Jayco will notify owners and provide corrected labels free of charge. The safety recall began on November 2, 2012. Owners may contact Jayco at 1-574-825-0608.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 12V498000.
