NHTSA campaign 12V124000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Honda (american Honda Motor Co.): Suspension › Front › Control Arm › Lower Arm

Honda (american Honda Motor Co.) reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 23, 2012 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,316. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 CR-V VEHICLES. THE WELD STRENGTH ATTACHING THE SUB-FRAME BUSHING COLLAR TO THE PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT LOWER ARM IS INSUFFICIENT. THE COLLAR CAN SEPARATE FROM THE ARM DUE TO VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING.

The risk

AS A RESULT, A LOSS OF STEERING CAN OCCUR, INCREASING THE RISK OF CRASH.

The remedy

HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE PRODUCTION LOT STAMP ON THE PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT LOWER ARM AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE LOWER ARM, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT APRIL 17, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 12V124000.
