NHTSA campaign 12V018000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Temsa Global: Service Brakes, Air › Antilock › Abs Warning Light

Temsa Global reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 12, 2012 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 40. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

TEMSA GLOBAL (TEMSA) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011-2012 TS35 BUSES FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 121, “AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS.” THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MALFUNCTION WARNING INDICATOR DOES NOT ILLUMINATE IN A CHECK LAMP FUNCTION WHEN THE IGNITION IS TURNED TO THE ‘ON’ OR ‘RUN’ POSITION.

The risk

WITHOUT THE CHECK LAMP FEATURE, THE DRIVER MAY NOT BE AWARE THAT THE INDICATOR LAMP IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, AND IF THERE WERE AN ABS PROBLEM, THE DRIVER WOULD NOT RECEIVE A WARNING. A MALFUNCTIONING ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The remedy

TEMSA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE BUSES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 15, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TEMSA AT 1-407-601-7801.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 12V018000.
