Trans Tech Bus: Seats
Trans Tech Bus reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 10, 2012 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 333. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
TRANS TECH IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 THROUGH 2011 SCHOOL BUSES MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 2010 THROUGH JULY 2011EQUIPPED WITH A C. E. WHITE SEAT CUSHION. THE SELF-LATCHING MECHANISM USED TO RETAIN THE SEAT CUSHION TO THE FRAME MAY NOT ACTIVATE. ACCORDINGLY, THESE SEATS FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NUMBER 222, "SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION."
The risk
IF THE SEAT CUSHION IS NOT FULLY LATCHED TO THE SEAT STRUCTURE, IT COULD FLIP UP OUT OF POSITION IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS.
The remedy
TRANS TECH WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE SEATS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 7, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TRANS TECH AT 1-845-988-0419.

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 12V007000.
