NHTSA campaign 11V005000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Dutchmen Manufacturing, Inc.: Fuel System, Other › Delivery › Fuel Pump

Dutchmen Manufacturing, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 6, 2011 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 229. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

DUTCHMEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 RUBICON AND VOLTAGE RECREATIONAL VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN AUGUST 16, 2010, THROUGH DECEMBER 23, 2011. THE FUEL SHUT-OFF TIMER MODULES ARE DEFECTIVE. THE MODULE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PROGRAMMED WITH A 5 MINUTE SHUT-OFF FEATURE, WHICH AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF THE FUEL PUMP AFTER 5 MINUTES OF NO ACTIVITY. THE DEFECTIVE MODULES DO NOT HAVE THIS AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF FEATURE PROGRAMMED INTO THEM. THIS ALLOWS THE FUEL PUMP TO CONTINUOUSLY RUN IF NOT SHUT OFF IN THE INITIAL 5 MINUTE PERIOD, CAUSING IT TO OVERHEAT AND FAIL.

The risk

OVERHEATING MAY LEAD TO FIRE, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR PERSONAL INJURY.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE FUEL SHUT-OFF TIMER MODULES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 17, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DUTCHMEN AT 574-537-0700.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 11V005000.
