Mazda Motor Corp: Suspension › Multiple Axle
Mazda Motor Corp reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 29, 2009 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 220. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
MAZDA IS RECALLING 220 MY 2009 B-SERIES TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH 2-WHEEL DRIVE. THE FRONT SPINDLE STEM MAY CRACK DUE TO AN IMPROPER MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF THE SPINDLE.
The risk
IF A FRACTURE OF THE SPINDLE STEM OCCURS, THE WHEEL MAY SEPARATE FROM THE AXLE, WHICH MAY RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
The remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FRONT SPINDLE AND REPLACE IT IF NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE FEBRUARY 9, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MAZDA AT 800-222-5500.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 09V032000.
