NHTSA campaign 07V474000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Ducati North America: Electrical System › 12v/24v/48v Battery › Cables

Ducati North America reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 10, 2007 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 385. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE BATTERY CAN MOVE SIDE TO SIDE INSIDE THE FUEL TANK MOUNTING COMPARTMENT. THIS MOVEMENT COULD RESULT IN MAIN WIRING HARNESS DAMAGE AT THE BATTERY TERMINAL. THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CONSEQUENTLY STOPPING THE ENGINE.

The risk

IF THE ENGINE STOPS WHILE THE MOTORCYCLE IS BEING DRIVEN, IT COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL INSTALL A BATTERY MOUNTING BRACKET AND TWO DOUBLE LOCK VELCRO STRIPS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BATTERY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 19, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DUCATI MOTORCYCLES AT 1-408-253-0499.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 07V474000.
