Keystone RV Company: Equipment › Recreational Vehicle/Trailer › Lpg Systems › Furnace
Keystone RV Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 18, 2006 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 150. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
ON CERTAIN FIFTH WHEEL TRAILERS, THE FURNACE AIR INTAKE WAS INCORRECTLY INSTALLED. THE AIR INTAKE MAY DRAW AIR FROM INSIDE THE UNIT (INSTEAD OF FRESH OUTSIDE AIR) WHICH CAN CAUSE IMPROPER GAS/AIR MIXTURE AND INEFFICIENT COMBUSTION. ALSO, IF THE TRANSITION TUBE HITS THE FURNACE AIR INTAKE TUBE END TO END, INSTEAD OF OVERLAPPING, THE PRESSURE CAN PUSH THE FURNACE INTAKE TUBE INTO THE BLOWER HOUSING/WHEEL.
The risk
SOOT CAN ACCUMULATE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE UNIT AT THE FURNACE EXHAUST VENT AND THE BLOWER HOUSING/WHEEL COULD BIND CAUSING RUBBING AND POSSIBLE FAILURE.
The remedy
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND VERIFY THE TRANSITION PIPE IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY AND REPAIR IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 14, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KEYSTONE RV AT 1-866-425-4369.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 06V318000.
