Kalmar Industries Corp: Service Brakes, Air › Antilock › Control Unit/Module
Kalmar Industries Corp reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 7, 2006 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 2,044. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
ON CERTAIN TERMINAL TRACTORS EQUIPPED WITH BENDIX AIR MODULATOR VALVES, THE ELECTRICAL WIRING TO THE AIR MODULATOR BRAKE VALVES FROM THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) IS INCORRECT. THE WIRES TO THE "EXHAUST" AND "HOLD" CONNECTIONS ON THE BRAKE MODULATOR VALVES ARE REVERSED.
The risk
IN AN ANTI-LOCK BRAKING EVENT, THIS WILL CAUSE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) TO MALFUNCTION. THE ABS PERFORMANCE WILL BE DEGRADED, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The remedy
DEALERS WILL PROVIDE OWNERS WITH 4 MODULATOR VALVE JUMPER HARNESSES FOR INSTALLATION. OWNERS SHOULD HAVE THIS REMEDY DONE BY AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS FAMILIAR WITH "BENDIX" AIR MODULATOR VALVES AND BASIC ELECTRICAL ASSEMBLY PROCEDURES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 4, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT OTTAWA TRUCK AT 785-242-2200.

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 06V306000.
