NHTSA campaign 06V276000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Airstream, Inc.: Service Brakes, Hydraulic

Airstream, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 12, 2006 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 22. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

ON CERTAIN TRAVEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH DEXTER AXLES, THE DISC BRAKE CALIPER MOUNTING BOLTS MAY STRIP. INSUFFICIENT CLAMP LOAD BETWEEN CALIPER AND YOKE CAN CAUSE THE CALIPER TO DISASSEMBLE AND ADVERSELY AFFECT THE TRAILERS BRAKING SYSTEM.

The risk

LOSS OF BRAKING CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

The remedy

DEXTER HAS MODIFIED THE REMEDY FOR THESE VEHICLES (PLEASE SEE 06E029). A NEW LARGER CALIPER MOUNTING NUT WILL BE INSTALLED. FOR MORE INFORMATION YOU MAY CONTACT DEXTER AXLE AT 1-800-400-2164 OR AIRSTREAM AT 1-937-596-6111, EXT. 7418 OR 7400.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 06V276000.
