NHTSA campaign 04V606000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Paccar Incorporated: Latches/Locks/Linkages › Hood › Latch

Paccar Incorporated reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 23, 2004 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 55. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, A LOCKING TAB IN THE HOOD LOCK CYLINDER WAS IMPROPERLY LOCATED PREVENTING THE CYLINDER LOCK FROM ENGAGING. THE HOOD LOCK CYLINDER IS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT THE HOOD ONCE IT IS RAISED FOR ACCESS TO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.

The risk

IF THE LOCK DOES NOT ENGAGE THIS COULD RESULT IN THE HOOD CLOSING WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO SOMEONE WORKING UNDER THE HOOD.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE HOOD LOCK CYLINDER AND REMOVE AND REPLACE ANY DEFECTIVE HOOD LOCK CYLINDERS. THE RECALL BEGAN JANUARY 23, 2005. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT KENWORTH AT 1-425-828-5440.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 04V606000.
