Hackney: Exterior Lighting › Turn Signal › Flasher Unit
Hackney reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 7, 2004 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 82. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
CERTAIN TRUCK BODIES BUILT ON ISUZU CHASSIS FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THE TURN SIGNAL FLASH RATE IS EXCESSIVE AND DOES NOT PROVIDE AN ACCEPTABLE FLASH RATE.
The risk
A FOLLOWING OR ONCOMING DRIVER MAY NOT RECOGNIZE THE TURN SIGNAL LAMP AS FLASHING AND THUS NOT REALIZE THE TRUCK DRIVER'S INTENTION TO TURN. THIS COULD LEAD THE OTHER DRIVER TO MAKE AN UNSAFE MOVEMENT AROUND THE TRUCK.
The remedy
DEALERS WILL FURNISH A REPLACEMENT TURN SIGNAL FLASHER THAT WILL BRING THE FLASH RATE INTO THE MANDATED RANGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 11, 2005. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HACKNEY AT 800-763-0700.
