NHTSA campaign 04V016000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Monaco Coach Corporation: Seats

Monaco Coach Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 6, 2004 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 386. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

CERTAIN MOTORHOMES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NOS. 207, "SEATING SYSTEMS" AND 210, "SEAT BET ASSEMBLY ANCHORAGES." THE BOLT AND LOCK NUT CONNECTING THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS TO THE SLIDE TRACK WERE NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT HARDWARE WAS ALSO USED TO SECURE THE SEAT PEDESTAL TO THE FLOOR MOUNTS.

The risk

IN SOME CRASH CONDITIONS, INCORRECT INSTALLATION COULD ALLOW THE DRIVER AND/OR PASSENGER SEAT PEDESTAL/FRAME TO BECOME LOOSE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN DEATH OR INJURY TO THE SEAT OCCUPANT.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW BOLT AND LOCK NUT TO THE PEDESTAL MOUNT. OWNER NOTIFICAITON BEGAN JANUARY 21, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MONACO AT 1-877-466-6226.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 04V016000.
