Wheeled Coach Industries: Equipment › Other › Labels
Wheeled Coach Industries reported this defect to federal regulators on Jan 3, 2003 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 81. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
CERTAIN AMBULANCES BUILT ON FORD F-350 CHASSIS WERE BUILT WITH FRONT COIL SPRINGS SIZED TO PRODUCE A FRONT GROSS AXLE WEIGHT RATING (GAWR) OF 4,500 LBS. THE FRONT GAWR WAS MISSTATED ON THE FINAL STATE CERTIFICATION LABEL AS 4,850 LBS.
The risk
THE CHASSIS' GAWR WOULD BE TOO SMALL TO SUPPORT THE FINISHED PRODUCT. A DIFFERENT SET OF FRONT SPRINGS WAS USED WITH THE LIGHTER FRONT GAWR.
The remedy
NEW CERTIFICATION LABELS WILL BE PROVIDED TO THE OWNERS WITH INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN DECEMBER 20, 2002. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT WHEELED COACH AT 1-800-628-8178, IF THEY DO NOT RECEIVE A CORRECT LABEL OR HAVE TROUBLE INSTALLING THE LABEL.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 03V008000.
