NHTSA campaign 00V124000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Nissan Diesel America, Inc: Fuel System, Gasoline › Delivery › Hoses, Lines/Piping, and Fittings

Nissan Diesel America, Inc reported this defect to federal regulators on May 1, 2000 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 719. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS. THE DIESEL ENGINE FUEL SUPPLY HOSE FROM THE FUEL FILTER TO THE TOP OF THE FUEL INJECTION PUMP IS INCORRECTLY ROUTED.

The risk

THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW THE HOSE TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE ENGINE BLOCK, CAUSING THE HOSE TO WEAR OUT.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE EXISTING DIESEL FUEL HOSE WITH A REDESIGNED FUEL HOSE THAT HAS A DIFFERENT SHAPE FROM THE EXISTING FUEL HOSE. DUE TO THE DESIGN CHANGE AND ROUTING CHANGE OF THE REDESIGNED FUEL HOSE, THE ENGINE ELECTRICAL HARNESS CONNECTOR BRACKET AND THE FICD VALVE BRACKET WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT WITH REDESIGNED BRACKETS. THIS WILL PROVIDE ADDITIONAL CLEARANCE BETWEEN THESE BRACKETS AND THE REDESIGNED FUEL HOSE.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 00V124000.
