Power steering will fail intermittently, sometimes for days at a time. Steering becomes difficult at all speeds and failure occurs without warning. Attached is a deposit receipt for 25% of a ram dealer quoted $2,500 steering rack repair for this issue.

The power steering on my 2016 Ram failed and I was unable to move the steering wheel at all. The truck only has 45,000 miles on it! The safety of myself and others were put at risk because I had zero control over my steering wheel since I couldn’t move it. I took it to the Ram dealership to have it looked at. I had to have the entire steering system replaced (steering rack, etc). The dealership had no idea why this happened. They have never seen this issue before and they attributed the issue to a ‘faulty system’. The fix cost me $4500! I contacted MOPAR to see if they’d make this right and they blew me off since my specific Ram does not have a recall currently even though other Rams have had recalls for this exact issue. There weren’t any warning lights until the steering wheel quite moving.
The ABS module failed on my truck and was replaced using an OEM part. The newly installed module worked for a few months, but failed. Upon failure the speed control failed, the ABS light came on and the truck was stuck in the middle of the street where I tried to restart the vehicle. The truck wouldn't shift into drive or neutral to be moved. The truck was unable to be moved and it took multiple restarts to get it able to be driven again. I have tried to get a new part for repair from Dodge (Ram) and they informed me the part is not being sold due to an engineering review being completed by the company that was going through March of 2024. The truck is far too dangerous and unpredictable to drive in this state and there is no way to repair the issue. What recourse is there to have an operational vehicle for use? This alone tells me Dodge knows there is a problem and they are unwilling to do anything about it in the immediate future. This repair is $1,000 to $2,000 every time it is completed.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) and 23V411000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH and entering a parking lot, the vehicle stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the high-pressure fuel pump had failed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 184,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Over the past months, we've been hearing what could best be described as a grinding noise from the steering, heard on any light nudge of the steering wheel, at speeds of about 35MPH and up, intensifying at higher speeds. While the sound is rather faint, it is our impression that over time it's been intensifying. We inspected the wheel hubs, which seem to be fine. We therefore believe it's quite likely the noise is coming from the steering rack (our model is equipped with an electric power assist steering). Searching online in an effort to learn if anyone else has been having similar issues, we found out that there's an ongoing investigation of steering issues related to RAM 1500 that includes 2016 models. We therefore decided to report our issue here.
The contact owns a 2016 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at at 25 MPH, the steering wheel tightened without warning. The contact used excessive force to untighten the steering wheel; the power steering assist returned to normal operation. The contact replaced the ball joints, inner tie rods, and several other parts in the vehicle after the failure. A year after the initial failure, the contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, the same failure occurred again without warning. Due to the failure, the contact hit a a curb and damaged the front end of the vehicle. The air bag did not deploy; the contact was not injured. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to his home where it remained in his possession. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V167000 (Steering); however, the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
Two years ago I experienced the warning lights coming on my dash with the ABS, Brakes and one other one I can't remember. The truck locked up and I had to have it towed and the two driver had trouble getting it loaded. The repair shop replaced the ABS module & hydraulic assembly with a rebuilt part. Two weeks ago, the same brake failure happened with the locking up and the lights. I've been told by the dealer and repair shop that the ABS module is on a national backorder due to waiting on the engineering review to be complete with no estimated time to release a new part. All the dealers and repair shop have said I should not drive it. I learned two years ago that this is a very wide spread issue with this model and there's been no recall issued. The fact that the brakes can lock up while driving is the utmost form of safety issue. I am now without a vehicle and Dodge will not provide any type of support to help with a rental care. The ABS module has a design defect and is known by Dodge to be defective. The part # is 68295368AC.
Complete loss of power steering. Occasional steering lock and takes a forceful pressure on the steering wheel to allow movement. Service power steering light is flashing on the dash with DTC's indicating module is bad. Loud grinding can be heard when turning left.
Truck shuts off on its own mostly at low speed but in traffic for years Ram told me they could not find a problem. now ram says they know what's wrong but they don't know how to fix. recall (66a) (z46) been trying for years to get this fixed. stalled four times in traffic yesterday. Called Ram and they don't when or if then will be able to fix.
The power steering intermittently goes out. It may work for a few seconds then stop working. Even turning the steering wheel you can feel it come and go. Dodge dealer informed me there are no recalls and I would be charged ??
On vacation 07/29/2023 towing a 4000lb. camping trailer with family in the mountains with weekend traffic when motor dies without warning. Luckily I was able to pull over safely. Was able to restart but died three more times but made it to a gas station where it died completely. We were very very fortunate no one was injured. No local shops open on weekend so had the whole rig towed 137mi. home. On Monday 07/31/2023 I had the truck towed to the dealer where I purchased the truck new. after a week and a half they said the wiring harness needs to be replaced but is no longer available so there is nothing they can do. Massive safety hazard should have a solution. I just learned that Dodge knows about this truck dying without warning but has done nothing.
ANTILOC BRAKING SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING DUE TO A FAILED ABS MODULE
The ABS Module has Failed at 66,829 miles. I just left the Dealership Magic City 1750 Independence Blvd, Bedford, VA 24523 who advised me that they have had other trucks with the same issue. This Part is not available "under engineering review until March, 2024" and the same part has been re-engineered 3 times already. I currently have a warranty that will expire before the part is available.
The power steering in my 2016 ram pick up truck has started to go intermittently on and off. Sometimes it feels like it’s catching on some thing when it goes out and then it comes right back on. Other times it is completely inoperable. This occurs for a couple days at a time and then the power steering will work for a period of 1 to 2 weeks before acting up again. I have also noticed a squeaking sound when turning the wheel to the right every now and then. I did take the truck in to the dealership however, on the day that I did, the power steering was working correctly, therefore, they were unable to diagnose anything. They stated that the power steering was working as it should. because of how random the power steering goes out, it is near impossible for me to get it to the dealership in time for them to properly diagnose. I did notice that your organization has opened an investigation into an issue at sounds very similar to the one that I’m having. because of how random the power steering goes out, it is near impossible for me to get it to the dealership in time for them to properly diagnose. Power steering system failed with 108500 miles. Unable to turn wheel back to center without fighting it. Almost caused me to crash twice.

I bought a 2016 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel brand new from a Dodge, Ram, Jeep dealership. November 2021 I taking my son, who was 11 years old at the time, to a friends house. The route to the friend's house was through a farm area and the roads were hilly with moderate traffic. I remember driving down one of the hills and starting hearing an odd sound coming from the engine. The sound was sort of like a light thud or rocking sound. It started off quiet and soft at first but start getting louder and louder. We weren't very far from our destination so we continued on. We came to a stop at a stop sign at an intersection then proceeded through it when traffic was clear. We got up to about 35 MPH and the sound from the engine became extremely loud then all of the sudden the engine seized/shut off and all the electronic shut down. The power steering and power brakes were not receiving and any power so it became really hard to control the vehicle. I struggled to turn the steering wheel to the side of the narrow county road and was eventually able to stop the vehicle. I tried to restart the vehicle multiple times and each time was unsuccessful. Since the vehicle would not start, I had to order a tow truck to tow the vehicle to the dealership. The dealership looked at my truck and told me the crankshaft failed and they metal from the crank in my oil pan. When they told me this I started doing research to see if anybody else had this problem. I found a recall for 2014-2018 Ram ecodiesel trucks

The engine failed while driving, resulting in the engine shutting off and being unable to be restarted. I was driving at the time of the incident, which could have cause Greta danger to myself, my children, and other drivers. The engine has been inspected by an independent repair shop. When the engine first shut down, a warning light came on.
The component that failed was the air ride suspension. When outside air temperature drooped to 0° then the air ride suspension lowered to the bottom and would not inflate. With this the wheels are out of alignment, tires scrape on fenders when turning and there is no suspension, spring action. I had the truck taken to the Ram repair center, they reset the computer and kept the truck in a warm shop until suspension continued to work. The following week when outside air temperature dropped to 0° the same thing happened. Every year truck suspension goes out. No warning. Where I live the outside air temperature below 0° is common in the winter and can last over a week at a time.

The vehicle was not repaired due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The Traction control flashed immediately before the wreck so my assumption is there was a traction lock malfunction. The road was wet due to rain. My husband was driving 55 mph when the truck's steering locked and we ended up in the right side ditch where we hit an electric power pole. My husband had several fractured ribs. My right lower arm was broken, required surgery and a week long stay in the hospital. They put a rod with screws into my arm. The truck was totally destroyed according to our insurance company.
I lost my power steering 8/22. I drove a while without it. The steering did not freeze up. I had to wait several months for the part to come in. A non-dealer mechanic repaired the steering. I am reporting this after reading about others who had the same problem.
The electronic steering in this truck seemed to have malfunctioned in December 2022. The truck had approximately 60,000 miles on the odometer. It seems that the power steering is failing to assist with steering efforts, making it more difficult to safely steer the truck. The steering wheel does not return to center on its own, takes more effort to move the wheel, and at some degrees of the steering wheel, seems to not work at all. Sometimes the steering wheel seems to "skip" as well, depending on the position. It happened randomly but the only difference was after a big snow storm. The truck did not travel through deep snow but the roads were wet from clean up/salt. The only things that seem to maybe help are wiggling the plug on the ESC or getting a car wash - but then it still does not go back to normal, just seems like its getting a tad bit more power. But then it goes back to failing to assist. It is described just like the recall that is out there for these trucks, but my VIN does not fall under the recall, even though the symptoms are the exact same. The dealership and Ram Cares have been no help in this either. I have tried a few things including replacing the battery, fuses, steering components - everything rather than replacing the whole rack and ESC. Nothing seems to help.

A recall was made for manufacture dates ending in 9-2015. My truck is 10-15 and exhibits the same loss of power steering at low speed as this recall. Chrysler advises me to take it to the dealer and pay out of my pocket for their, obvious, defective build.I have seen numeroys complaints regarding vehicles outside the stated MD of this recall
Hello, On March the 31st, 2023 my husband 2016 Dodge 1500 ECO Diesel Truck serial number 1C6RR7KM5GS326355 stopped working while on a fishing trip returning to Tucson, Arizona . The truck was towed to Globe , Arizona still at auto shop since March 31,2023 , he left it for them to fix thinking he would get his truck in about a week or so. Unfortunately, he was contacted by the dealer Horne Dodge Chrysler Jeep Nissan, Globe , Arizona and found out that it was a recall on a high pressure fuel pump , which to this date July 20.2023 they have not been able to repair. The dealer explained the part is not available and neither are any replacement parts to fix the vehicle fuel pump with an unknown date of service to get the truck back up an running. First of all you need to understand this was my transportation back and forth to work and I had no choice but to go out and purchase another vehicle which put be in a bind financially as I am making to truck payments. I have been a fan of diesel of dodge diesel trucks and found another dodge truck which was a 2023 RAM 1500 VIN 1C6SRFFM2PN550123 , at Bill Luke Dodge in Phoenix, AZ in mid- April as I needed a vehicle to transport to work and Horne Dodge had no resloution to get the current vehicle fixed. Then a few weeks after purchasing a 2023 Dodge I received a recall notice once again for my new truck I just bought. This is so upseting to me as now I am hoping this truck doesn't quit working on me as still have another truck sitting at t

The vehicle is starting to lose power steering function. The vehicle is at 102,000 miles. This is happening any time I turn my wheel. This is a very hazardous safety issue. This issue has not been seen by any other professionals. It just started happening a couple weeks ago. I called the dealership and they said my Vin was not part of the Dodge Ram 1500 year 2015 -2016 recall. I called the manufacturer and they told me it could be a recall soon. But until then I'm to get it looked at and get it fixed. If the recall is a thing soon they will reimburse me my money.

Steering stopped working while driving. Previous year had a recall for this issue and my truck was not included. This is an ongoing problem and the part needed to fix it is unavailable.
My 2016 Ram 1500 Sport developed an exhaust leak originating from the exhaust manifold like many other Rams. I noticed it because I could hear a ticking noise upon starting the vehicle, specifically coming from the passenger side front wheel-well. The vehicle was brought to a local Ram dealer and was diagnosed as having multiple sheared studs on the passenger side exhaust manifold. Due to the truck being over 5 years old, the power train warranty no longer covers this. Ram is well aware of this issue but still refuses to initiate a recall. This issue presents a safety concern and has a potential to endanger myself and any other passengers who get in the vehicle due to raw engine exhaust fumes being released within the engine bay while the vehicle is running which could enter the cabin of the vehicle while in operation causing potential injury.
The HPFP on my ecodiesel went out the first half of April. It is currently at a Chrysler dealership and is available for inspection. The safety of little children were at risk because I was driving through my neighborhood when it failed. The problem was confirmed by the dealership. No warning before the problem happened.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
