CVT Transmission failed when driving on interstate. The car lost power, jerked and stopped. I have a special needs child (3 year old) in the car during the incident and it almost put both of our lives in danger. We followed all the manufacturer's maintenance recommendations for the engine and transmission and changing the fluid and filters at the proper recommended mileage and time. All services including a transmission fluid (last one on Dec 2020) were done at the dealership. THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING SIGNS. THERE ARE NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES ALSO WHEN TESTED AT THE DELERSHIP. NO WARNING SIGNS ALSO. THIS IS THE SCARY PART OF THE PROBLEM. It just broke down all at once in the middle of interstate. When towed to the dealership, they said, it would cost about $4500 to replace transmission. My car has only 75k miles on it and Nissan extended transmission warranty up to 85k miles. Dealer refused to repair/replace the transmission indicating Nissan had already settled a law suite which covers only up to 7 years or 85k miles whichever occurs first. Since I used it for 9 years, they refused saying law suites are settled. We understand all cars have repairs, but not $4500 kind. When approached Nissan Consumer affairs, they mentioned they are not going to help and gave me an address if I would like to approach an Attorney. It's clear on the call with Nissan that Customers are not important. They know that their CVT transmissions are faulty. I'm sure they have an army to fight their f

Component malfunctioned - Driver sun visor comes down randomly & always over bumps. 2013 Altima is available for inspection. Risk factor - Visor came down randomly while I was driving in rush hour beltway traffic and hit me in the nose, blurred my vision and put me and my passenger at severe safety risk. Problem confirmed by independent service center No other inspections No warnings. First started in 2018 but has gotten progressively worse to the point of almost causing accidents due to hindering my vision while driving and/or hitting me in the face.

The OCS System in this vehicle has been faulty and on recall several times. Nissan refuses to take accountability. Whenever we take the car to the dealership all they do is clear the code out of the system but they are refusing to repair the occupant safety sensor. This sensor defect can cause the airbags to not deploy in the case of an accident which is not only dangerous to the driver but to others on the road as well, it is potentially deadly. There are several people with the same complaint and Nissan is insisting that consumers need to pay out of pocket to fix the problem although they know their recalls have not been sufficient to remedy the issue. At this point, there needs to be some accountability and reassurance that drivers and their safety mean more than a company's bottom line. This is a potentially deadly hazard that they should be responsible for repairing. The AIRBAG OCS light continues to stay on the dashboard, and the passenger occupant light does not adequately work. There are others online complaining of the exact same issue.

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was serviced by the dealer in 2016, for a recall repair for the mass airflow sensor however, the failure recurred. The contact had her nephew replace the mass airflow sensor on three separate occasions. The mass airflow sensor was also replaced once by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that recall repair was only performed one time free of charge. The failure mileage was 108,000.

My Occupant Classification System is not functioning correctly. There is a voluntary campaign related to this issue (Campaign ID: PC214, NHTSA# 13V-069) that covers 2013 Nissan Altima but for some reason my VIN is not covered under this. However the recall campaign is for the exact problem I am having. I want my VIN to be included in this campaign.

Headlight assemblies have developed film on inside surfaces, causing the headlights on low beam to be extremely dim, significantly reducing normal night vision to a dangerously low level. Low beam light output is less than that of the fog lights!! Only driving with high beams resolves the issue. Will not drive the vehicle at night! Have discussed with dealership and was told it is a KNOWN problem on 2013-2016 Altima and Maxima vehicles. That was within the past six months. Was told that only resolution would be to replace the headlight assemblies at an estimated cost of at least $450/headlight. Recently spoke to Dealership manager regarding the issue. Available for inspection. Not inspected by manufacturer / police / insurance reps. No warning lamps, messages, etc. First appeared within the past year. Case number 44352662 issued today @ ~ 12 noon. Awaiting response back from Nissan Customer Affairs supervisor, but not expecting call back until tomorrow.

According to documents that Nissan has filed with the NHTSA, there are several factors that owners should consider related to the recall. Firstly, if the ODS system malfunctions, the passenger airbag will permanently suppress regardless of the occupant’s weight. If the system does malfunction, the (red) supplemental airbag warning light (SRS Light) will illuminate to alert the driver of the problem. Additionally, the (amber) front passenger airbag status light will illuminate to alert the front seat passenger. In December 2012, Nissan first became aware of the airbag defect due to an increasing amount of warranty claims regarding the SRS Light and/or the passenger airbag status light on 2013 Nissan Altima models. The automaker eventually linked the ODS system problem to a supplier (Tier 2 to Panasonic) problem. Evidently, its supplier had made changes to the sensor, which affected its performance. On February 21, Nissan determined that a recall was necessary after a two-month probe. Our vehicle was serviced in 2015 for this recall. Subsequently, we have had problems with the passenger airbag continuing to stay on. When trying to get an inspection it always has trouble because of this light. We have been told by Nissan it is not "their problem" however there are thousands of similar complaints. Nissan is refusing to remedy the situation that is a danger to vehicle owners and others on the road. Nissan needs to be held accountable for this known defect and error that can be a g

The contact stated upon checking the vehicle, she noticed that the driver’s side rear wheel was turned inward and that the control arm had detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the control arm was fractured, and the failure was related to an unknown recall. The dealer was made aware of the failure and informed that the vehicle could not be repaired under the unknown recall as the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the manufactured date of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

The original transmission on this car failed and I had it replaced at a Nissan Dealership. In less than two years, the new transmission also failed. I was driving on the highway and transmission gave up and the vehicle would not accelerate putting my Life and others' life in danger/unsafe. I contacted Nissan consumer/customer service and the case manager was not helpful and literally, stonewalled my concerns. Gross negligence by Nissan about the vehicle owners and their safety. The Nissan Altima cars that were manufactured between 2013-2015 are pure LEMONS.

Rear right control arm broke away from the frame. My mechanic said this was due to corrosion due to salt. The Nissan dealer said a selective “ service campaign was conducted but was only for certain VIN’s in certain states. I live in one of those states but was told corrective action had to do with the original delivery destination for the car but not the final delivery location ( Medina, OH). I’ve read the same issues have occurred over and over but Nissan refuses to acknowledge it is widespread. The say it has only affected .003 % of cars. This number is low because most people don’t know they have an issue until it’s too late. At a minimum an inspection needs to be performed on all 2013 Altima’s to determine if there is an issue.

Headlights are very dim at night on low beam, I have to drive with my high beams because I can't see the road or signs or cars , I have almost gotten into accidents because of this, I have taken it to the dealer and they will not replace them , I contacted Nissan North America Consumer Affairs and they won't replace them they say that I'm outside my manufacturers warranty I told them that I understand that but the problem with the headlights is a manufacturers defect , I took the car to a mechanic and he told me to look on YouTube that there are other Nissan Altima owners with the same problem, so I looked it up and he was correct there are videos of mechanics that found the reason the lights are so dim , you basically have to break the housing of the light to see the problem and it is a manufacturers defect so they should be responsible for that the proof is there in the videos I should not have to buy two new headlights because the problem is there's . This has been going on for some years and I was going to give up but I wanted to find out way at night I can't see driving it is frustrating I'm 61 years old and this is not the only car I've owned. I went to recall for Altima hood latch no repair, alt rge cvt p0766 ntb16-121, max alt rg mur ocs ntb16-052 and altima hood latch ntb16-011. There were no safety issues with vehicle operation before the recall. The KatyNissan called me on June 7th to notify me that they fried the components during the computer diagnosis. The KatyNissan told me that they will charge Nissan USA for it. I went to the KatyNissan to pick up my car on June 8th, the transmission and i-key warning lights appeared on the head-up display. I called the person in charge and said, "Why is this happening?" He asked me to pay $100 to re-synchronize the car keys because he reprogramed the car computer due to the fry up, and the car jerks violently when shifting the gear. After the pickup, I got a new state registration tag and went back home. MIL warning sign appeared on the head-up display. On the next day morning on June 9th, I brought my car to the dealer for repair. The KatyNissan explained this situation to Nissan USA and Nissan USA stated that they are not responsible for the fry-up during the computer system diagnosis so the KatyNissan and I should split up the expenses in 50:50. I believe this statement is unreasonable, the dealer should take full responsibility.

1. The vehicle component that failed was the transmission. The manner in which it failed was total, rendering the vehicle unable to move under its own power. This failure occurred while moving in traffic on a heavily trafficked divided highway. 2. The driver and other occupant of the vehicle were put at great personal risk by being in a disabled vehicle amidst surrounding traffic moving at 40-60 MPH. Occupants of an additional vehicle that stopped behind the disabled vehicle were also put at great personal risk for the same reason. Law enforcement officers who arrived to assist were required to block multiple lanes of oncoming traffic with their duty vehicles. These law enforcement officers were further put at risk by having to push the disabled vehicle 100+ yards through traffic at the aforementioned speeds before it could be safely moved off the roadway. Passing motorists were at great risk of colliding with the disabled vehicle throughout the incident. The total duration of the disabled vehicle being stuck in traffic as described was in excess of 15 minutes. Due to luck and the actions of law enforcement officers, no injuries or fatalities resulted. 3. This mechanical failure has been diagnosed by both independent and manufacturer certified dealer repair shops. 4.T he vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturers authorized service representative, the dealer. Law enforcement officers assisted in recovering the vehicle and confirmed it was disabled. Insurance representati

Noticed that my 2013 Nissan Altima headlights are very dim. Researched on the internet and quickly realized this is an issue with many 2013-2018 Altimas and that the reflective material in the assembly breaks down over time. This is a serious safety issue and Nissan does not have a recall and they definitely should be forced to recall cars with this issue before it's too late. Very serious safety issue in my opinion.

While I was driving and had stopped at a red light. When the light turned green the vehicle wouldn’t move and instead shut down. It would power normally again, but when the car is shifted into drive, the car shuts down again. This is incredibly dangerous as my car was stopped in the middle of the road during rush hour. I was lucky to not have been hit. There were no warning signs. It happened very suddenly. I took my car to the dealership and they said my car needs a transmission replacement (car is a 2013 and 61k miles). I found out that there was a class action lawsuit that took place in 2020 for the very problem in the make, year and model of my car (CVTs in many 2013-2016 models). Nissan never recalled the transmissions but instead settled for an extended warranty which ended May 2020 for me. Now it is May 2021 and my transmission needs replacing. This problem is not only a part of the class action lawsuit that is already settled, but there are countless accounts of this problem still happening to people. Nissan is failing to take accountability for their faulty transmissions, which is a danger to the public. I’m am asking that NHTSA pressures Nissan to recall all CVTs and to reimburse people for their CVT repair costs.

LUCKILY, HE DID NOT PASS A ONCOMING VEHICLE AT THE SAME TIME. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO EDMUNDS NISSAN IN COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT I NEED A NEW CONTROL ARM AND THAT THE COST WAS APPROXIMATELY $1200. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND SAW SOME POSTS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE FROM 2013 TO 2018 MODELS. I CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER ADVOCACY AND THE REP STATED THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ORDERED. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING THAT A PROBLEM HAS BEEN MADE AWARE AND THAT A MANUFACTURER WILL NOT GO TO THE NEXT STEPS TO FIX IT. CAN'T SHIFT OUT OF PARK. MULTIPLE NISSAN VEHICLES OF THIS EXACT MODEL YEAR HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. OVER 500+ COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE ABOUT THE SHIFT LEVER GETTING STUCK IN PARK, AND THE ISSUE IS DUE TO A WEAK PLASTIC BIT THAT BREAKS ON THE INSIDE OF THE CENTER CONSOLE. THIS WOULD BE A MAJOR ISSUE FOR SOMEONE TRYING TO MOVE THEIR CAR WHEN STUCK IN TRAFFIC AFTER PUTTING IN PARK, ONLY TO REALIZE THEY CAN'T TAKE IT OUT OF PARK. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER, TO WHICH QUOTED ME 400$ FOR THE REPAIR COSTS AND THEN LET ME KNOW OF MULTIPLE PEOPLE WHO HAVE CALLED WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENS AROUND 75,000 MILES. THIS CAN BE A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN, AND SHOULD BE RECALLED DUE TO THE NUMBER OF ISSUES THAT OWNERS HAVE HAD WITH THE EXACT MODEL.

Reading these

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
