Defect. MV Agusta USA, LLC (MV Agusta) is recalling certain 2018 MV Agusta Brutale 800 Dragster RC, F3 800RC, and F3 800 motorcycles. These vehicles are equipped with a fork axle carrier that may have damaged threads which can cause excessive play of the wheel clamping screw.

Risk. Wheel clamping screws that experience excessive play can cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. MV Agusta will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the threaded holes in the fork axle carriers, and if necessary replace the fork leg, free of charge. Owners are advised to not ride their motorcycles until the repair has been performed. The recall began July 20, 2018. Owners may contact MV Agusta customer service at 1-215-781-1770. MV Agusta's number for this recall is 18RC02.

The contact owns a 2018 MV Agusta Brutale 800 Motorcycle. The contact stated while riding 40-45 MPH, the rear brake was depressed but failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to continue riding the motorcycle while using the front brake lever only. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear brake pedal had failed. The contact stated that the independent mechanic bled the brake line as per the manufacturer's instructions on an unknown TSB. The contact stated that the failure recurred while riding. The vehicle was taken back to an independent mechanic who bled the brake line however, the failure persisted. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to their location for diagnostic testing. The contact declined because the dealer location was 6 hours away. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 500.
