Filed Dec 12, 202312,741 vehiclesMazda North American Operations

Defect. Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2004-2006 B-Series vehicles that received replacement front passenger air bag inflators under a previous recall. The replacement front passenger air bag inflators may have been installed incorrectly.

Risk. An incorrectly installed inflator may not properly inflate the passenger air bag, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy. Dealers will inspect and reinstall the front passenger air bag inflator, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 1, 2024. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 Option 6. Mazda's number for this recall is 6423L.

Filed Dec 14, 201717,576 vehiclesMazda North American Operations

Defect. Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2004-2006 Mazda B-series trucks. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

Risk. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.

Remedy. Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger side frontal air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began on January 17, 2018. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 1817L. Note: This recall supersedes recall 15V-346. TAKATA RECALL - MAZDA RECALL NUMBER 9116A, NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 16V-048 I WAS INFORMED BY LETTER ABOUT THIS RECALL WELL OVER A YEAR AGO, BUT THE STATUS STILL REMAINS "RECALL INCOMPLETE, REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE". MY DEALERSHIP CANNOT ADVISE IF OR WHEN PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. I AM VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE IT WAS A MAZDA B2300 SERIES PICKUP A YEAR NEWER THAN MINE WHICH BLEW UP AND KILLED A PERSON, INITIATING THIS RECALL OF BOTH MAZDA AND FORD RANGER BRANDED MAZDA PICKUPS. THE FAILURE RATE OF THESE INFLATORS INCREASES RAPIDLY WITH VEHICLE AGE.

NHTSA has issued a do-not-drive warning for a recall on this vehicle.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.

Most recent recall on file: Dec 12, 2023. Source: NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation.
