2024 Kia EV9 complaints

Over 10 times I've had errors come up on dashboard about sensor systems that are not working. Cat has been taken in 5 times for this with no resolution. I can provide numerous dashboard pictures going back since I purchased the vehicle

My EV9 lunged forward very abruptly when I was parking. I had to slam on the brakes before my vehicle crashed into the building in front of me. My vehicle also lost the signal (blank screen while driving ) the same day my car lunged forward. I could not tell how fast or slow I was going. I pulled over and restarted the vehicle or and my screen came back on. I began driving for maybe 4 minutes and the screen went completely black except for the “lost signal” alert in red. My vehicle has also lost the ability to use adaptive cruise control while driving my vehicle. I pulled over and when I restarted the vehicle i was able to use it again.

Our KIA EV9, which HAS HAD the software update installed to address NHTSA Recall Number 24V757 (Kia safety recall SC326) has again had the driver's instrument panel screen come up blank when the car was started. This is identical to behavior we observed multiple times before taking the car to the dealership for the software update. To resolve the issue, the car was turned off and permitted to sit for an hour before we attempted to start it again and the problem was no longer present.

The contact owns a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the contact became aware that the instrument panel was dark. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel had failed, and a system update was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V757000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). The approximate failure mileage was 4,612.

On November 5th, 2024 I exited a store and my vehicle instrument panel was black when I turned my vehicle on. I turned my vehicle off and on several times trying to get the panel to work. I could also not control the headlights or turn signal with the manual controls either. It was still daylight hours and I was 2 miles from home so I decided to try and see if the vehicle could be driven home. I was able to get the vehicle home but could not get the instrument panel to turn on despite many more times of trying by turning the vehicle off and on. The following morning I contacted the Royal Kia dealership and told them of my issue and they informed me this was a known recall issue that had recently been discovered; they had the vehicle towed to them the same day. They have now had my vehicle for 2 weeks and when I called them before filing this complaint they said they had no idea when they would be able to fix the recall. They also told me they required a special tool to fix the recall and they do not have that tool and have no idea when they will be able to get it. I then called another local Kia dealer and they told me they would also not be able to fix my vehicle in a timely manner and it would be 2 months before they would even be able to diagnose my car. My complaint is that the recall letter claims this is just a software update that could be done without visiting a dealership but both dealerships are telling me that it has to be fixed in person by them.

I started my EV9 tonight and the main instrament pannel would not turn on. I was able to drive but could not see my speedometer or any other safty information on the screen. I was not notified about the recall until filing this report.

My family and I were driving down a busy highway at speed in the middle lane, the vehicle suddenly jolted forward and lost power. Dashboard reported electrical system failure, contact service. Vehicle was recovered to dealer who has been unable to resolve issue and KIA unable to diagnose the root cause of the problem. Very dangerous.

I was driving down the highway at approximately 60 mph with approximately 40% charge to the high voltage battery. While moving the car suddenly stopped accelerating and switched to neutral automatically. The instrument panel provided no audible alerts of a problem and in relatively small text stated "check electrical system" The brakes and the rest of the car's electronics worked such as turn signals and warning lights. We were able to coast and pull over to shoulder of highway and stop safely, but losing acceleration in middle of highway suddenly was very scary. Car is currently at dealer awaiting to be diagnosed.

Windshield wipers are not strong enough to deal with even small amounts of snow. The gap between the windshield and the hood is unusually large which allows snow to accumulate and get packed into the gap. The wiper motor stops functioning even with a small amount of snow accumulation in that gap. Even when completely cleared before driving, when snow gets pushed down from the wipers or slides off the roof into those gaps, the wipers stop functioning immediately and view is completely obstructed. Took me 10 minutes with a garden spade and my finger nails to dig out every piece of snow before starting my drive, then had to pull over twice during the drive to do the same thing again. Even when a small chunk of snow slipped down (the size of a hand), the wiper couldn’t push it back up and off. This is extremely dangerous where winter snow is a daily problem.

On Oct 11th the vehicle failed to fully charge, stopping at 69%. I heard loud and repeated clicking from the undercarriage. On Oct 12th I received an email / system notification “ A suspected condition with your BuddyNine’s Battery Management System has been detected. Charging has been limited. A full system check is recommended. Please schedule an appointment at your Kia dealership as soon as possible.” On Oct 12th I received a critical warning in the Kia app: “ Your EV Battery has a critical issue. Contact Roadside Assistance (844-886-9411) as soon as possible.” I took the car into a Kia dealership on Monday Oct 14th and they have had it for 23 straight days. I have received conflicting information about the underlying cause and have not received an estimate for when it will be repaired.

The driver's seat shifts towards the right rear when the vehicle accelerates or goes around a left hand turn (i.e. when forces push the driver towards the rear of the vehicle). The driver's seat shifts towards the left front when the vehicle brakes heavily or goes over speed bumps. Kia dealership says this is a known issue with the seat coming out of its track assembly, and confirmed by half a dozen reports on Reddit's Kia EV9 forum [XXX] ). Dashboard shows a message" Stop vehicle and check brake system", vehicle doesn't pass over the 10 mph. On the KIA access APP I have all this 6 Diagnostic Issues : FR_CMR C28B981, FR_CMR C164286, ADAS_DRV C28B086, ADAS_DRV 28B986, ADAS_DRV C28B881, ADAS_DRV C164286. Dealer was unable to fix the issue, they state that it fix by itself. Also I have a safety Recall SC326

The contact owns a 2024 Kia EV9. The contact stated while driving at highway speeds with the cruise control activated, the instrument panel went blank. The contact stated that when the instrument panel returned to normal operation, the vehicle quickly accelerated without the accelerator pedal being depressed. The contact immediately deactivated the cruise control and the vehicle returned to normal operation. Since the initial instrument panel failure, the failure persisted while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that the instrument panel intermittently flashed on and off and occasionally there were several warning lights illuminated after the instrument panel regained normal function. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The contact was also informed by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V757000 (Electrical System) which was linked to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 500.

Main instrument panel in front of the steering wheel went blank; could not see the speed, charge status, or anything other than the gear. Turn signal indicator did not flash or make noise. The entertainment screen was not impacted.

Main head display in front of driver is blank. No live driving information is displayed, speed, state of charge, etc. This has happened 3 separate times at this point. So far, leaving the car turned off and locked for an undetermined amount of time (over 30 minutes?) has resolved the issue as the next time the car is started the display functions as normal.

My gauges stopped displaying any information outside of the gear selection. I had no Speedometer, or acess to any of my safety features. This has happened twice and gauges will turn on again on the next drive if sufficient time has passed.

Bought a new EV9 and experienced steering shaking/vibrating heavily on high way speeds. There is always a subtle vibration on speed around 70mph where the cup holders in the middle of front seats vibrates, the driver seat and steering vibrates and creates a unpleasant and disturbing driving experience which can lead to anything worse. There are so many other complains on the similar issue but the manufacturer and/or service agents are not agreeing.

I recently had recall 24V693000 completed on my vehicle. After the recall while using the remote vehicle movement feature it no longer stops at all. While demonstrating the feature for a friend interested in purchasing a similar vehicle it did not stop and I had to move and release the remote to stop the vehicle. I have tested it again twice and the same problem occurs, the vehicle does not detect a pedestrian behind it and does not attempt to stop or stop.

When the vehicle is in adaptive cruise mode and tracking a lane with Lane Keeping Assistance, if the lines on the road widen beyond a certain point (perhaps 3-5ft wider than a normal lane), the vehicle will suddenly stop maintaining the lane with no audio warning or significant visual indicator. As the driver should always be paying attention, it is the lack of an audio warning that is the major concern. On a straight road, the vehicle will slowly begin to drift out of the lane. However, when this happens on a curve, the vehicle will suddenly stop steering around the corner, and throw the vehicle out of the lane in a dangerous way. This happens all the time when the lane widens, which I often experience on newer freeways with wider lanes. If a fix can't be provided for the system shutting down, it at least needs an audio warning indicator so the driver is alerted to what is happening and can safely take control.

I turned on my car and the screen did not turn on. I couldn’t see my speed or did not know if my turn signals were actually on or not.

Instrument cluster at steering wheel column went black. Cannot see driving speed , odometer, and other necessary safety status prompts. Requires shitting car off and turning back on to restore cluster. But it has failed multiple times since.

Cluster behind the steering wheel was blank, has happen twice within the last 30 days. This is an issue since I had no speedometer and had to use WAZE to guess how fast I was going. It resolved itself after turning off the EV9 for about 45 - 60 mins. First time it happen on Sept 27, 2024, and then it happen again today Oct 21, 2024.

Display/instrument cluster not functional when turning the car on after overnight charge to 80%. User profile display functions and car can shift into gear, although no speedometer available.

Left screen where odometer should show become blackout at the middle of my driving. Went to drive for 200 miles without odometer and other warning signs because the screen are all blackout, 3rd time happen. 1st was Gear also not emgaging and blackout screen 3 months ago, then same incident happen 2 months ago and then another incident with same reason for this month.

The drivers display went blank. There is one indication so speed, break settings, turn signals or any of the safety related items such as blind spot, collision warning ect.

The main instrument panel went black just shift indicator is visible. Did not know how fast i was going. No warning messages or lamps came on prior to not coming on.

Gauge cluster completely blank after successfully starting the car. Happened twice in two weeks. No speedometer, no battery level, no safety features available, no audible turn signal

My wife turned on the car after it had been parked for a few hours and the primary instrument cluster display (that contains critical information such as speed) was blank. I am reporting a critical safety issue with my KIA EV9. The vehicle's information screen, which displays essential driving data such as vehicle speed, cruise control status, advanced driving system indicators, lights, and signals, has malfunctioned. On two separate occasions, the screen went completely black while driving, leaving all critical driving information inaccessible. This malfunction poses a significant risk to my safety and the safety of others, as I was unable to monitor the vehicle’s speed or system status while driving. Availability for Inspection: The malfunctioning component (information screen/system) is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: This issue compromised my ability to safely operate the vehicle. Without visibility of the speedometer, driving system indicators, or signal lights, I was unable to monitor crucial driving functions. This increased the risk of speeding unknowingly and reduced my ability to respond to surrounding traffic, creating a dangerous situation on the road. Each time, the digital instrument panel (where the gauges are displayed) goes almost entirely blank. It’ll restart after the car sits while off, but we’ve had to drive without the instrument panel telling us how fast we’re going and whether the turn signals are on or off. This has happened twice now. Twice I have had close calls with forward collision braking. The warning comes on but the automatic breaking does not occur.

Dashboard blinked out. Turned off vehicle and let sit for ten minutes per the Kia forum and restarted. Still no dashboard indication at all. Blinkers do function. Taking to dealer. Vehicle has approximately 1100 miles on it.

The two drivers electrical monitors fail. The driver side monitor goes blank and the second monitor gets stuck in backup camera mode. When this happens, the turn signals are not indicated inside the car, so driver is not informed if this is working or not. This has happened twice and car was brought to KIA for inspection each time. Display doesn’t come on when car goes on. Blind spot indicator, turn signal, speed display, nothing works. Car will drive but very unsafe without dash display.

I copied this from this website. I'm having the exact same issues. I took it to Oakes Kia where I bought the car and they investigated it and said they had no idea what was going on. Instrument panel went blank while driving. No digital gages available. No sound or picture when turn signals used. Had no idea how fast I was driving. The issue resolved itself after the vehicle was turned off and sat for a few hours. Have a service appointment for safety recall in addition to this and another concern.

The screen that shows speed, miles remaining, etc. went black on a long trip. All of the automated cruise control, lane keeping, etc. are also housed in that screen. The blinkers would not work, I had no idea how fast I was going at any time which is unsafe. I could not see how much range is left on the vehicle which I imagine could lead the car just dying while driving or going into the turtle mode with too low of a charge. Also, the adaptive cruise control was not working properly and at one point when a car in front of me moved over out of my lane, the car accelerated hard and brought me up to about what was probably about 90-100mph, not even close to where it was set earlier. 2 hour drive without screen or these safety features and the screen still is not back. I will be taking it into the dealership. This is the second time this screen went out but luckily the first time I was not on a 2 hour work trip/drive and was able to just leave the car in my driveway and use another vehicle.

Twice in approximately 6 weeks of ownership, when starting the car, the screen that displays the digital instrument panel for the driver has been blank with the exception of a single letter at the bottom of the display that indicates the drive mode of the vehicle (D). While in this state, the vehicle does not have any audio alerts (e.g. turn signal, blind spot warning, etc). Also, due to the screen being blank, the vehicle speed, remaining range of the electrical vehicle, and all other digital gauge data are unable to be seen. The screen portions to the right of the driver instrument panel (radio, android auto, etc.) are displayed when this occurs. If the vehicle is turned off and then allowed to sit for 30-60 minutes, when restarting the vehicle, the condition is cleared.

After starting and backing the car out of a parking spot, I noticed the instrument cluster display screen behind the steering wheel was completely blank, except for the letter of the gear I was in (P, R, or D) in the bottom center of the screen. The symbol for the parking brake also appeared in the bottom left of the screen, and the Door Ajar symbol at the top of the screen. The Heads Up display was also not working at all. When the turn signal was used, I could not see the light flash on the screen, and there was no audible noise telling me the turn signal was on. In fact, many audio notifications did not work. I had no ability to see my speed as both the speedometer and Heads Up Display were not working. I also could not see what mode of regenerative braking was being used, or any other vehicle status that normally appears on the status display. This is dangerous situation for multiple reasons: 1) I can not see how fast I was going 2) There were no safety indicators, visual or audio, that the seat belt is not used. 3) I can not tell if my turn signal was on, which could result in an accident when changing lanes if it wasn't working 4) I can not see how much range is left, potentially resulting in a situation where I get stranded. 5) I could not see what mode of regenerative braking I was in. The main screen which displays the vehicle speed, state of charge and side view cameras, amongst other items, was completely black. Not knowing the speed I was traveling was dangerous to my safety. I have read of other complaints online of other users having this issue. They stated that if you turned off the car, locked the doors and didn't charge for around 30 to 60 minutes, the screen would reset and work. It did. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or law enforcement.

Digital Gauges Keep Failing

Vehicle Information: 2024 Kia EV9 Light Long Range Mileage: 850 miles Issue Summary: I am reporting a serious safety concern with my 2024 Kia EV9 Light Long Range. Within the first three weeks of ownership and with less than 900 miles on the odometer, I experienced multiple instances of the vehicle entering "turtle mode" while driving at high speeds on the freeway. This mode significantly reduced the vehicle’s speed without warning, creating a dangerous situation. Incident Details: While driving at 80–85 MPH on a California freeway with my family, my 2024 Kia EV9 LLR suddenly entered "turtle mode" without warning, drastically reducing speed to 30–40 MPH. I had to quickly activate hazard lights and navigate to the shoulder. At the time, the battery level was around 15%, and I initially thought it was a low battery issue. However, the following day, after fully charging the vehicle, the issue recurred with approximately 82% battery remaining. Over the next few days, this happened a total of four times while driving at freeway speeds. On the fourth occurrence, the vehicle shut down completely after coming to a stop and would not respond to acceleration until multiple restart attempts. Current Status: The vehicle has been towed to the dealership by Kia Roadside Assistance. The service team is currently investigating the issue and has opened a case with Kia corporate, but no diagnosis has been provided at this time. Dashboard screen is blank. Have tried to turn off and restart the car multiple times. can not see speed or other key information. There really needs to be a recall on this as soon as possible and some sort of a bulletin that the car is undriveable. It's the same issue described here. Car was fine until today. Drive instrument screen goes blank. Can’t see signals. All safety features disable. Can’t see signals for turning. Can’t see charge or mileage

Another car parked around 12 inches from the driver's door of my Kia EV9. I was unable to electronically unlock any of the doors nor the rear hatch to let me get inside my car. I tried the key fob, the Kia app on my Android phone, and touching the both front door handles. The side mirrors extended and the lights flashed and the horn beeped each time I attempted to unlock my vehicle, but the side handls wouldn't extend out. I tried opening the rear hatch via the key fob but it didn't open; also I tried opening the rear hatch by pressing the switch near the license plate, again, it didn't open. I was standing in a parking lot for 30 minutes before the driver of the other drove away.

When I started my car to go to an appointment, the instrument dash didn't show any information, i.e., Speed, Charge Remaining, odometer, etc. The car was driveable but I didn't have any indication of my speed.

Yesterday I was nearly in an accident any my car’s horn did not work. It still doesn’t work. I called my dealer and they hadn’t heard of the problem in the EV-9 but added to my upcoming recall appointment. Not sure vehicle is safe to drive without a working horn.
