While towing the trailer loaded with a boat the right hand side single leaf spring snapped in half causing the axle to break free and shift backwards and the tire to begin rubbing against the fender/trailer frame. Luckily this happened at low speed at a boat launch and did not happen on the highway. Previously there were no signs of trouble, but examining the fracture of the leaf spring reveale that there was already surface rust on 1/3 of the crack.
