Defect. Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling various 2002-2016 recreational vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V746-9524.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Risk. In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy. Jayco will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267, or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information.

Defect. Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 Redhawk motorhomes manufactured August 1, 2012, to June 24, 2016. The affected vehicles are equipped with shower curtains that may not adequately resist catching fire in the presence of an ignition source. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 302, "Flammability of Interior Materials."

Risk. A flammable shower curtain may further fuel a fire, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy. Jayco has notified owners, and dealers will replace the shower curtains with curtains made with fire retardant, free of charge. The recall began August 11, 2016. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9903318.

SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS CLASS C RV I HAVE NOTICED CRACKS FORMING ON THREE OCCASIONS ON THE OUTSIDE FIBERGLASS OF THE OVER CAB AREA. THE CRACKS FORMED ON TOP CLOSE TO THE EDGE OF THE CAB ON BOTH SIDES AROUND HALFWAY FROM THE ROOF LINE AND THE CURVED AREA. INSTEAD OF SOME RANDOM FIBERGLASS CRACKS THIS CRACKS APPEAR TO ME MORE OF A STRESS RELATED PROBLEM OR SOME TYPE OF STRUCTURAL DEFECT IN DESIGN AS THEY APPEARED DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM EACH OTHER ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAB AND RE-APPEAR AFTER REPAIRS. THE FIRST CRACKS WERE NOTED IN FEB 2015 ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THE SECOND SET WERE NOTED IN MAR 2015 ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE LATEST CRACKS WERE NOTED IN DEC 2015 AND ARE LOCATED NEAR THE SAME AREA AS THE ONES NOTICED IN FEB 2015. THIS CRACKS WERE FOUND DURING VEHICLE INSPECTION PRIOR TO USE.

Reading this record

No unusual pattern of severe incidents in the complaint record.

Complaint counts track how many cars were sold and how long they have been on the road as much as they track quality. A common model from 2013 has had a decade to accumulate reports; a rare one from last year has not. The signal worth weighing is in the severity columns, in whether the same component keeps appearing, and in whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.

Recall repairs are free for as long as the recall stands. Check whether a specific car still has open work at NHTSA's VIN lookup.
