Keyless start system problem on the screen when starting the car

While at a stop light my idol stop function turned the car off. When the light turned green I lightly took my foot off the brake and the car tried to turn back on (the power clicked) but instead it shut off the car fully. Only the car radio was still working as if it was in accessory mode. Car display said to turn the car on I needed to press the brake and press the ignition button. My foot was still on the brake. I pressed the ignition button but nothing happened. Pressed it again and nothing happened. Lifted my foot off and on the brake and tried again. Nothing. Display still read press brake and ignition. Lifted my foot off the brake and on again and then pressed the ignition, it FINALLY restarted the car. Extremely dangerous situation as this took nearly a minute for the car to restart, the light had just cycled again. Dealership could not replicate the situation. They updated the cars software and it did not fix the problem. They said the battery was still good but I had read on the piloteers.org website that changing the battery seemed to solve the problem. I had them change the battery anyway and it fixed the issue, now nearly 2 years later the problem is reoccurring again.

Keyless start system problem appeared at about 40K miles. Now auto lock feature doesn’t work. At 45k miles now it’s appeared again and doesn’t go away. Many other owners of same car report similar issue apparently

Steering wheel shaking violently when braking especially at highway (down hill) speed.

The car was traveling on a highway and stopped responding while quickly decelerating all the while rolling through all of the warning sign sign screens. Luckily was in I side lane and able to hop curb to pull off to shoulder. Every time we take to dealer they claim it’s a known problem and “reboot” system. Then seems to work ok for a while. This is the fifth or sixth time taking back to dealer. This time almost caused an accident. I’m starting to think the vehicle is not fit to be on the road.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle would intermittently shut-off upon depression of the accelerator. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle soon after failure and resume normal driving. The contact had called two dealers and was informed that they had never heard of such a failure. The contact was informed by each dealer that he would be charged a diagnostic fee to service the vehicle. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

From a stopped position, when foot released from brake, car completely shuts down. Happens randomly. Six times over last 2 months. Complaint was called in today 8/16/2021.

THE IDLE STOP FEATURE ENGAGED BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART WHEN FOOT TAKEN OFF BRAKE AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. I HAD TO CHANGE TRANSMISSION TO PARK, TURN OFF ENGINE, PUSH START BUTTON TO RESTART ENGINE. IT TOOK SEVERAL TIMES PUSHING START BUTTON BEFORE ENGINE STARTED. DELAY CAUSED TRAFFIC CONGESTION AT THE LIGHT. THIS SAME SCENARIO HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 OTHER TIMES OVER THE LAST 3 MONTHS.

The Keyless Start Power Assistance Error Light keeps displaying after my auto lock feature failed. There is a forum of other 2016 Pilots of many owners experiencing the same thing. Today I found myself unable to start my car with every message failure displaying. When help arrived they found a bad battery (unsure if related or not). After only a few hours the same error message appears again.

In the past 4 months, each time my Honda Pilot is stopped at a light or in slow traffic, the idle stop will engage and shut off the engine. In order for the engine to turn back on, we have to put our foot on the brake, place car in park, and push the start button to get it to start again. Each time we have taken it to the dealer or a car repair shop, they test the battery and it is fine. While we have not had an accident yet, we have come close due to cars behind us not knowing our vehicle is having an issue. The most recent time occurred in a toll booth line leaving NYC with a line of traffic behind us. Another issue we have experienced is with our fuel injector. Our Pilot was manufactured when there were known failures with fuel injectors. The fuel injector malfunctioned while driving with our three kids down a hill. The car lost power and we had to coast down a hill. Thankfully, an exit was nearby and we were able to come to a stop. Vehicle was serviced at a local dealer. Although there were know issues with fuel injectors, we still had to pay for the replacement and the vehicle's manufacturers warranty was still valid.

When I stop and the car has the "auto-engine shut off" turned on, when I press the button to disable the "auto-engine shut off"; the pilot completely turns off and all warning lights are thrown up on the display. I then attempt to turn on the pilot by pressing the start button and it takes a couple of attempts to restart the pilot. This has happened at stop lights, on the highway in stop and go traffic and other places as well. This has been happening for over a year. Last time Honda told us to replace the battery, even though it wasn't bad, and they weren't sure, and it still isn't fixed.

When the vehicle was at a stop signal, the engine went into idle stop but would not restart. This happened three times so far. Once 2 years ago and twice in the past 3 days. The vehicle eventually restarted after we turned it off then on again. In all cases we were at a large intersection, but this could have happened on a highway ramp and could have been dangerous.

1| The problem is with the transmission. When we are driving, the Pilot makes jerky movements and the odometer bounces up and down during this time. This happens most of the time... it is rare when the transmission feels smooth. Also, sometimes when in reverse the Pilot jerks and makes it hard to control when backing up into a parking spot. This happens from time to time, but not every time. There is a known issue about the Honda Pilot 2016 having major transmission issues where it makes the vehicle jerky when accelerating. Yes, we can provide the vehicle for inspection. It is a struggle to get up to speed when it feels like the Pilot is losing power. Also, once I backing up into the parking spot, the Pilot was making jerking movements and I could have damaged the cars that were parked behind me if I didn't throw the Pilot into neutral. Overall, it is a safety concern for my family of six. 3| The Honda dealerships seem to be aware of the issue but will not do anything about it. They recommend a transmission flush and computer repair/upgrade but are not willing to guarantee it will fix the issue. Occasionally, the engine does not automatically re-start after the idle engages. This has happened multiple times over the last couple of years. The result is a stalled vehicle, sometimes at busy intersections. This is confusing, annoying, and potentially dangerous --- thankfully so far the drivers behind me have reacted quickly to a stalled vehicle in front of them. The vehicle also seems to hesitate when attempting to start manually. The situation can become quite frantic. I changed the on-off push button which was having some other problems, but the problem with the engine not re-starting after idle persists. I have also changed the battery and regularly check my current battery, but it just happened again yesterday and I almost got hit! What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Engine automatic re-start after idle. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Stalled vehicle in traffic. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No.

Occasionally, when the vehicle is stopped at a stop sign, or stoplight, the idle stop will engage and shut off the engine. When releasing brake pedal, engine will not restart. Vehicle must be placed in park, brake pedal depressed very hard and then attempt to restart. Vehicle will restart after one or more tries. When the vehicle will not re-start, the symptoms are that or a dead battery. Warning lights, engine will not crank. But, then it restarts just fine. The issue does not happen if Idle stop feature is disabled. Dealership has not been able to repeat problem, has tested primary electrical components and cannot fix it. Dealership has looked at the problem 3 times. This is becoming a safety issue, and it is easily found in online forums with other owners of the same years, make, model having the same issue. I believe this to be an issue with the control logic in the Idle stop loop.

Issue: Auto Stop / Start feature on 2016 Honda Pilot Touring does not re-engage / start the car after being idle from a stop. This is a repeated issue that has been occurring intermittently since I bought the car brand new. I have taken it to the dealer multiple times and they state they can't replicate so can't fix. However, multiple forums have stated others are having similar issues. This originally was happening about once a month. Its now at least once per week. I have blocked traffic and almost been hit multiple times as my car won't start again at stop signs / lights. Usually after 30 seconds to 2 minutes, I can put it in park and wait a bit and it will eventually start. The last two times it would not restart until it was jumped after waiting for roadside service. I have taken it for battery and alternator evaluation and both are fine.

Keyless Start System error in the 2016 causes a risk of being stranded without the ability to start vehicle. There is no option on the car to use a manual key for starting. You can get the door open with a manual key, but not operate the car engine. There is nothing wrong with the engine. It’s a safety issue.

O2 sensor in regards to fuel injector recall. Fuel Injector failure with 55,000 miles on injectors. All injectors replaced by dealer under recall. Now with, 57,000 miles, so 2,000 additional miles since original recall, now the O2 sensor fails. Obviously, O2 sensor failed due to original fuel injector failure putting too much fuel into the emissions system, which caused the O2 sensor to fail. The O2 sensor not part of recall and not covered under any extended warranty. But the extended warranty added onto catalytic converter. Entire emissions system has extended warranty except O2 sensors. O2 sensors are just as much a part of the emissions system as fuel injectors and catalytic converters. O2 sensors should be covered under this entire recall.

Auto Idle shut off stalls the car. Once the car is stopped...the engine will shut off. When I take my foot off the brake...the engine stalls, goes into park..several lights come up on the dash. This is very concerning....especially when it is difficult to start the car back up again.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the transmission failed to shift up to a higher gear. The contact mentioned that the RPMs were shifting faster than the speed. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

While waiting for the green light and pressing the brake engine suddenly stopped. Thinking that engine stop and go mode kicking in but despite releasing the brake it won't restart. Tried to restart vehicle but only on the 3rd attemp that engine restarted. This is the second time it happened despite the repair last month at dealership which according to them they change the start switch botton that might caused the problem. I believe the stop and go feature of the car causing this problem. Releasing the brake from full stop should render the engine to restart but for any reason this is malfunctioning.

A common symptom that is character I ed as the root cause is a weak battery, even when the battery is less than 2 years old. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Yes, vehicle has stalled several times on the busiest highway in Hawaii during rush hour traffic. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem was recreated by me during a road east several times with the service manager from the local Honda dealer in the vehicle. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? All lights come on instantaneously before the vehicle completely does. The vehicle must be placed in park and takes as long as 30 seconds to restart. Again, in the middle of the highway H1 on Oahu.

The Auto Idle Engine malfunctioned and would not allow the car to start again at an intersection. Previously, It has been stalling out and turns the electrical of the car off (radio) when engaging but this time the car would not start at all. After approximately 90 seconds I was able to turn the car back on.

The components that have failed are the fuel injectors and catalytic converter. This is according to the Honda dealerships diagnostics. Whenever I press the gas the car hesitates, shudders, shakes, and wont accelerate. This has been an ongoing issue for the past 4 years when the car was 1 year old. It has gradually become worse.My children's safety as well as my safety are put at risk every time I drive. But one example was when I was entering the highway, I tried to speed up and couldn't and almost crashed with another car because my car wasn't functioning correctly and I wasnt able to merge correctly. The dealership has confirmed the issue but wont take responsibility on fixing it. They want me to pay out of pocket. No it has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, etc. At first there were no warning lamps, but there was a slight hesitation. Eventually, when the car started getting worse, the emissions light as well as check engine light came on. Took it it to the dealership and they got Catalytic converter P0430 error code. However, the dealership kept saying it was fuel injectors issue since it was no longer under warranty and they wanted me to pay for it. Fuel injector warranty is covered until 36k miles and I was at 60k miles.I did replace the fuel injectors with a different mechanic and that didn't fix the problem. Still drove the same. Now that I am over 100k miles on my vehicle, they are saying it's the catalytic converter because that warranty ran out at 80k

Remote key start error

When I was stopped at a stop light, the auto idle malfunctioned. The car totally shut off and I was unable to get it restarted despite the flashing lights telling me to put it in park and restart it. It wouldn't start. After sitting for awhile in traffic waiting for the tow truck. I opened the door and closed it and then it restarted. I moved it over to a parking lot where it happened once again for the tow truck driver.

The vehicle is starting itself in accessory mode. It is completely off, no one around, no one touching the key fobs, and it will just try to start itself. Because no one is inside of the car pressing the brake, it just defaults to accessory mode. The vehicle is just turning itself on by itself. When the vehicle is locked, this triggers the alarm.

Got a “Keyless Start System Problem” message on the display board. Changed the batteries in the key fobs and the message won’t clear.

At a stop light the vehicle will intermittently, during the idle stop sequence, not restart. I have had it to the dealer for this problem where the outcome was NTF. I had the battery replaced and the vehicle still does this on occasion. In order to restart it must be placed in park, powered down, powered back up and then you can restart. This process on average takes 15 to 20 seconds. In a busy intersection this is very stressful as cars behind you start to honk and yell as you try and keep your cool to go through the restart process.

The auto engine idle feature when enabled will not start back up properly and stall at times. I’ve taken this car to my Honda dealer to repair and they do not see an issue.

Emission problem system keeps lighting up, going to service with Honda 3x times but engine light keeps popping up, replaced knock sensor failure at first, then still pop up, they figured out now it’s 2 bank failure, need to replace engine harness and knock sensors sub harness, p0328, p0333. It will cause acceleration problem

I get a keyless start system error that hasn’t been fixed with changing out the battery on the remote. From reading about this, it is a major issue with the Honda Pilots

The 2016 Honda Pilot Elite has an auto idle stop (AIS). Three times in the last six months my Pilot has stalled when at a stop and not automatically restarted when the foot was taken off the brake. It then took 5-6 tries to have the car restart. Twice it happened at stop signs with traffic behind me and once in rush hour traffic in Dallas when stopped for traffic backup. Mine does not seem to be an isolated problem since I have read numerous accounts of similar problems online. Dealer said did not have a fix for problem.

My vehicle shut down while driving with error messages on screen: emissions transmission, vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, trailer stability, assist, power steering, road departure,collision mitigation, blind spot, transmission, battery light, oil light. Coasted into safe place and had towed. Could not turn car back on other than seeing the above warnings.

Won't start after idle stop, and i have reported to Honda Dealer Elcrrito service center they updated systems last three months back again its same issue and have now had this problem 4 times in the past 4-5 months while we stopped at a light, the idle stop will engage and shut off the engine, but then it won't start without completely turn off for a couple of minutes, this serious safety issue if this will happen the same issue at freeway then we don't know what to do.

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HONDA PILOT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SEVERAL UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. A COMPLAINT WAS SUBMITTED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,100.

Auto Idle stop. twice my car has shut of when auto idle was engaged. Traveling at speed have to stop to merge or at red light auto idle will engaged. Car shut off when the brake was released followed by a warning display in the speedometer screen to put car in park and and restart. Those are the facts now for the issue. I was traveling on I35 in Texas merged onto 190. Had to momentarily stop to merge. I let off brake and the car died. Cars where coming up on me fast. I was able to engage hazard flashers and restart car. Second time I was at red light released brake and car died. Followed same procedure and got car restarted. This has happened twice in last two weeks My car is now in the shop . When researching on line this seems to be a common problem.

AUTO RESTART HAS TURNED MY VEHICLE OFF AT A STOPLIGHT AND THEN NOT RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND PUT THE DRIVETRAIN INTO NEUTRAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES NOW. ALSO THE CAR SHIFTS INTO GEARS THAT EITHER SLOW MY CAR UP WHEN I’M TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND SPEEDING MY VEHICLE UP WHEN BRAKING.

MY CAR WAS "STALL OUT" AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN WHEN I WAS IN "AUTO IDLE-STOP" AND PRESSED ON THE GAS. I FIRST NOTICED THAT THE AUTO IDLE-STOP WAS HESITATING WHEN IT WOULD START UP. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE RADIO WOULD "CUT OUT". AFTER THAT, THE VEHICLE WOULD JUST STALL OUT AND I WOULD HAVE TO PUSH PARK, PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THEN PUSH START. THIS IS VERY INCONVENIENT WHEN YOU ARE AT A STOP LIGHT OR GETTING READY TO MAKE A TURN AND THE VEHICLE JUST "DIES". TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS A SOFTWARE ADJUSTMENT. THE AUTO IDLE-STOP WORKED FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS, THEN STARTED HESITATING AND NOW IT INTERMITTENTLY STALLS WHEN THE GAS IS PRESSED.

GOT INTO A FRONTAL COLLISION AND THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM PROBLEM APPEARED ON THE DASH.

THE ENGINE AUTO/STOP FEATURE HAD FAILED 3 TIMES IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE FEATURE TURNS OFF THE ENGINE WHEN STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AND DOES NOT TURN BACK ON AND DISENGAGES THE CAR.

THE "AUTO IDLE-STOP" IS AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGED ON THIS VEHICLE. WHENEVER IT IS "ON" THE CAR WILL STALL AND SHUT DOWN WHEN STOPPING IN TRAFFIC OR AT LIGHTS. HAVE BROUGHT TO HONDA, THEY SAY IT CANNOT BE FIXED AND ITS VERY DANGEROUS.

THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTO SHUT OFF AND RESTART FEATURE. THERE ARE MANY INSTANCES WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AT A STOPLIGHT OR IN A PARKING LOT AND THEN DOES NOT RESTART AUTOMATICALLY AS IT SHOULD. THE VEHICLE MUST BE POWERED OFF AND ON MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WILL RESTART. THERE SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY SENSOR OR SOME THING. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP HAS PROVIDED NO EXPLANATION EXCEPT IT'S A BATTERY ISSUE WHICH IT IS NOT CONNECTED AS WE HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY. I AM CONCERNED THAT WHEN I AM IN TRAFFIC AT A STOPLIGHT IF I HAVE FORGOTTEN TO PRESS THE BUTTON TO DISENGAGE THE AUTO RESTART THEN I'LL BE STRANDED WHILE TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR. IT HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT THE LAST 18 MONTHS.

RECURRING PROBLEM WITH IDLE STOP FEATURE CAUSING CAR ENGINE TO SHUT OFF COMPLETELY (EVEN WHEN DISABLED), RESULTING IN AN ERROR MESSAGE AND REQUIRING THE CAR TO BE TURNED OFF AND ON. CAR ENGINE TURNED OFF IN DRIVE THRU AND TOOK 1 MINUTE TO RESTART CAR. KEPT PRESSING START BUTTON AND CAR FINALLY STARTED. THIS IS 2ND OR 3RD TIME HAPPENING.

AUTO SHUT OFF WHEN STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT WILL NOT RESTART ENGINE. HAD ORANGE RED LIGHT ON DASH SAYING YOU MUST PUT IN PARK AND PRESS BREAK TO AND PRESS START AGAIN. ALSO RADIO WENT OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS ALSO. IT ALSO HAS BEEN HESITANT TO ACCELERATE AFTER AUTO SHUT OFF STARTS ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES JUST IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS

I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. I PURCHASED IT CERTIFIED USED FROM GOUDY HONDA 626.576.1114 ON 11/13/2019. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AT TIME OF VEHICLE'S PURCHASE. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR LESS THAN 2000 MILES SINCE I PURCHASED IT. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE STALLING ISSUE MULTIPLE TIMES EACH BEING PROGRESSIVELY MORE ACUTE THAN THE PREVIOUS. I FIRST REPORTED THIS TO LONG BEACH HONDA AT MY SERVICE APT ON 10/15/2020. AT THAT TIME THE ISSUE WAS A HESITATION WHEN THE AUTO IDLE WOULD ENGAGE AT A RED LIGHT, IT WOULD START AFTER A SECOND OR TWO OF DELAY. TO COPE, WE HAVE GOTTEN INTO THE HABIT OF USING THE AUTO-OFF BUTTON BELOW THE GEAR SELECTOR. HOWEVER, THE LAST TWO TIME I HAVE FILLED UP FUEL AND GOT IN TO DRIVE OFF I HAVE FORGOTTEN TO 'PUSH THE BUTTON.' TODAY I FORGOT TO PUSH THE BUTTON AND ALMOST GOT HIT BY ANOTHER CAR, WHEN MY CAR STALLED AND REFUSED TO START BACK UP. I NOTICED IN THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS WERE ACTIVATED AND THE CAR GEAR SELECTOR WENT TO NEUTRAL. THE DANGER WAS I WAS ON A DOWN HILL SLOP AND ROLLED INTO TRAFFIC AS I MISSED MY WINDOW TO PULL OUT HAD MY CAR STARTED UP PROPERLY. THE DASH DISPLAYED THE PUSH BRAKE AND PUSH START MESSAGE. THAT DID NOTHING. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK USING THE PARK BUTTON AND THEN OPEN MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. AFTER I CLOSED THE DOOR THE CAR BEHAVED NORMAL AND STARTED WITHOUT ISSUE. I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY, THAT THE DRIVER HEADING AT MY DOOR WAS AWARE ENOUGH TO MITIGATE A MUCH WORSE TURN OF EVENTS. I WILL AGAIN REPORT THIS TO LONG BEACH HOND

VEHICLE DOES NOT RE-START AND APPEARS TO HAVE AN ELECTRICAL OUTAGE (ALL LIGHTS COME ON AND THE RADIO SHUTS OFF) AFTER "IDLE OFF" FEATURE IS ACTIVATED (MEANING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE) AT RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. I HAVE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TAKES 2-3 TRIES TO RE-START BY PUSHING THE START BUTTON. SO VERY DANGEROUS WHEN I'M AT A BUSY INTERSECTION, AND ESPECIALLY WITH KIDS IN THE CAR AND I CAN NOT MOVE. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS ALMOST ALL OF THE TIME. I HAD TO TURN OFF THIS FEATURE FOR SAFETY REASONS OR RISK BEING IN AN ACCIDENT. TWO YEARS AGO I HAD A HONDA DEALERSHIP LOOK AT IT AND THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T FIND AN ISSUE. I CHOSE THE MOST RECENT DATE OF OCCURRENCE (YESTERDAY) FOR THIS FORM BUT IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 4 YEARS. I CURRENTLY HAVE 45,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE.
