Engine Restart failure. Vehicle approached intersection, came to complete start and engine stopped. Vehicle would not restart when I lifted foot off of brake pedal. I had to shut vehicle off, waited a few minutes and restarted it again. Vehicle's Auto Idle Stop system was activate at time. on 12/11/2024 reported incident to NuCar Honda, Norwood, MA. They were unable to duplicate issue.
The vehicle infotainment system froze. Several minutes later after driving, I pressed the brakes but they did not function. The vehicle would not stop and crashed into the vehicle in front of me. Emergency braking did not engage or otherwise show signs of activation. After turning off the car and dealing with the accident, I restarted the vehicle and the brakes and infotainment system operated normally.
While at a stop light, there was an engine start failure that caused the vehicle not to restart. It took me approximately 5 minutes to get it to start again.
My automati braking has repeatedly malfunctioned and deployed emergency braking when no other vehicle is in the front of mine
Vehicle engine keeps stopping while in drive and puts itself in neutral and turn offs, metal flying around the engine, vehicle jumps and makes loud rattling noise, vehicle electrical issue all components turned themselves off, Catalyst converter and several other vehicle issues alarm safety , vehicle gets stuck on hill
This afternoon traveling home from our 5 year olds swim class, turning into our neighborhood at appropriate speed and braking. Shortly after I turned in, my passport jerked, dinged, locked the steering and then was ok. No error lights came on but was very scary. Too many recalls with this vehicle
I purchased a 2021 Passport this week with 22k miles. Test drive was great, but the next day I noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine at low rpm on a warm engine. I took back to the dealer twice and they told me it was normal… I took it to another Honda and they diagnosed crank bearing knock. I just purchased this car with low miles and it has engine problems which is very scary. Maintenance records are great. I’ve been reading forums and this problem is very common with these engines. A lot of people have been told it was normal, but it is not. It’s very scary and dangerous to find out I bought a defective engine. I have a video of the knocking sound.

The contact stated the vehicle applied the emergency brakes independently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,950.
The contact owns a 2021 Honda Passport. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and coming to a stop light, the brake pedal was depressed, and the wheels locked up. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to come to a gradual stop. The contact was able to continue driving after the brakes had been released. The failure occurred intermittently. The service brake warning light was illuminated. The dealer was unable to reproduce the failure and the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.
The automatic emergency brake system will randomly activate despite there being nothing in the way, no car in front, and no obstruction. It causes the car to slam on the brakes for no reason which I’m afraid will cause someone to hit me from behind.
- Automatic braking system flashes warnings for no reason, with no cars around me - Parking break hasn’t taken a handful of times - No collision warning when parking brake didn’t take, front end is now damaged ** I have dash cam proof I hit the parking brake before I collided with the vehicle in front of me in the school line. Husband glued the grill pieces together to keep them from overlapping.

The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Honda is not making the effort to correct this safety recall. Several dealers have been contacted and give the same old reply which is "Honda has not sent the parts". Meanwhile, safety is being jeopardized. This is about the 5th safety call on this vehicle which is ridiculous.
I purchased this vehicle from a dealership 1 week ago. Prior to receiving the vehicle it had been serviced by the dealership and had passed inspection. The vehicle is a 2021 with low miles and appeared to be in very good condition with no appreciable rust, corrosion or wear. Since purchase, I have driven the vehicle about 160 miles on my daily commute. I did have issues with one of the automatic systems, but will submit that as a separate report as I do not believe it is related to this issue. Tonight I was driving home from work on a hilly, curved two-lane road and came upon a vehicle parked across the opposite lane and slightly into my lane. I was traveling at about 45 mph and pressed on the brakes suddenly but with reasonable force in order to slow to pass with caution. I immediately felt loss of brake pressure and did not stop as expected. I continued on at the same speed and passed very close to the rear of the stopped vehicle. Fortunately, I was able to swerve to avoid a collision. Once the brake pedal was pressed completely to the floor, the vehicle began to decelerate gradually as I continued down the hill. No warning lights or alerts came on at that point. At the bottom of the hill, I turned onto a flat quiet road to drive slowly and assess the situation. I determined that the brakes were compromised and that most pressure had been lost. I parked the vehicle and about 15 minutes later turned it off and back on and numerous warning systems came on saying that the brak
Engine knocking noise that related to recent Honda crankshaft recalls of certain V6 engines. with 22k miles Honda did replace on main crankshaft bearing to to premature wear on my multiple complains on engine knocking noise that clearly audible between 11 to 17 k RPM. After main bearing replacement the noise is audible so the parts that cause it are still working in this engine. It is super unsafe to have catastrophic failure of an engine on highway or in the mountains with no cellular connection.
Hard inadequate shifting on ZF9 transmission between 4th and 5th gear with audible loud metal chunk from the transmission with jerk (break and sudden acceleration) of whole car. It could cause serious incident on icy surface to loose control on the car. America Honda case # 14390220

Vehicle started having issues with steering wheel shaking under braking at 10k miles. It started getting worse and at15k miles dealer diagnosed warped rotors . Dealer stated that brakes are not under warranty as this is wear and tear item. Dealer resurface rotors instead of replacing them as Honda wouldn’t cover it . Issue has returned again and under breaking steering wheel is shaking pretty bad . Honda does not want to cover this under warranty. I have contacted them and they said this is not under recall and they can’t help me. I wanted to report this as I do believe this safety issue that could result in serious accident and possible even casualties.
I have experienced multiple instances where the vehicle's transmission abruptly downshifts into lower gears, significantly reducing speed and creating a hazardous situation. This unexpected behavior has occurred on the Interstate, both while merging onto the highway and during regular driving conditions. On two separate occasions, my daughter was driving the vehicle when the transmission malfunctioned while driving on the Interstate. She was terrified as she believed she was losing traction and was unable to accelerate properly, putting her life and the lives of others at risk. I have personally experienced this issue as well when attempting to merge onto the Interstate under clear and dry road conditions. The vehicle would not exceed 35 mph, creating a dangerous situation. To rectify the issue, I had to pull over to the side of the road, place the car in park, and then put it back in drive to regain normal acceleration. I have used a code reader to check for any diagnostic trouble codes, but none were present. However, a blinking traction control light illuminated during these incidents, indicating a potential issue. I am deeply concerned about the safety implications of this problem.
Driving on [XXX] in New York State and the car started to break and no objects or cars in front of us. Dash-broad light came on and it said Break. Traveling doing 70 MPH and car went to 50 or so in seconds. This goes on about once a week in different areas. On my way to work I was on the highway and five warning lights came on out of no where. All five warnings were the safety assist systems had problems. I drove to the Honda dealership and found out it was my microchip for my honda, the main microchip for all of the safety and system controls were dead/bad and that it would need to be replace. I was told by the service manager that without the micro chip the vehicle would no longer be drivable as it controls power steering system, brakes system, lane departures, etc. If I would have ignored those warning lights, all of those systems all systems would have failed putting my life at risk and others in their vehicles as well . My vehicle was bought with 3 miles on the speedometer and was only 2 years old at the time of this occurrence.
The contact owns a 2021 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while after parking the vehicle in a garage and attempting to depress the button to collapse the side view mirrors, the function failed to operate. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer to have the wires replaced. The contact stated that shortly after the repair, the failure recurred. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer and was informed by the dealer that the vehicle was repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V174000 (Visibility) however, the VIN search found that the recall was not associated with the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
I have encountered two types of brake issues: 1) my vehicle seems to flash BRAKE occasionally when oncoming vehicles pass by for no reason - they are not entering my lane or doing anything that should cause the message to flash. The vehicle type does not seem to matter - they have been old and new models, and have been both cars and trucks. My vehicle has only visually warned, but does not engage brakes, so no further safety issue is involved. It has done it frequently on some days and then none for awhile. We have tried to make note of vehicle type and model for consistency, but have not found any. 2) If my vehicle has its cruise control on (which is often) and a vehicle in front of me moves into a left-turn lane to turn - often with plenty of notice - my vehicle will engage it’s brakes and slow down even though there is no danger of hitting the other vehicle. So long as I take it out of cruise control, it will continue on driving. I suspect that if cruise control is not disengaged, it could fully brake and cause a bigger issue of an injury or accident.
I’ve had several incidents where my vehicle has forced me to a screeching hault when not needed. Most recently it did, and I was almost rear ended by a large UHaul truck while my baby was in the backseat. This is extremely dangerous. This anti-collision system activates while on turns and when nothing else is happening around the vehicle. This is a safety feature that makes the vehicle more unsafe.
Since purchasing the vehicle in December 2023 with ~36,000 miles there have been two instances where the automatic brake warning has activated. Both events occurred while entering a corner between 30-50 mph with no other vehicle in the area or obstructions to be noted. The passport briefly activated the automatic brake warning, with the flashing indicator occuring on the main dash display for roughly 3-5 seconds. Following this brief period of indication the vehicle returned to it's normal operation. No accidents or injuries were sustain from these spurious events.
I have had multiple instances where the car appears to engage the brakes to prevent a collision, although I don't see any obstruction. It also makes the alarm sound indicating that I should brake as well. This occurs only on highways at highway speeds. It lasts for a few seconds and the car slows down significantly.
The forward colision warning comes on for no reason and brakes are getting applied for no reason. Very dangerous and can cause a rear end crash.
The passport flashes BRAKE and steering wheel shakes for no reason. I’ll be driving down the road nothing near and it does this. A few times it’s actually applied the brakes. Thank goodness no one was behind me as it potentially could have caused an accident. This occurs daily. Especially if I am driving on a 2 lane road
The emergency collision system constantly actives when there is no need for it to activate. It’s more of a safety hazard. I have just under 40 years of driving experience, former mechanic, and police officer for over 20 years. My professional opinion is, Honda needs to correct this problem. Thanks.
On Sunday April 14 while driving on the LIE middle lane a person driving at a high speed went from right side across to left lane in front of me when all of a sudden the brakes activated itself and my car nearly came to a stop nearly causing a car behind me to rear end me. This happened several times before while driving approaching vehicles in front scaring my family and I. Now my CMBS lights are permanently on on the dash. This system is nerve racking and will cause a severe fatal crash. Many people on several platforms are complaining about the same or similar issues. And understand an investigation has begun. Something needs to be done to resolve this issue. I have owned my 2021 Honda passport since November of 2023. With 19k miles.
The Forward Collition Mitigation System is constantly braking on its own for no apparent reason. It happens a lot when going around a slight right turn and it interprets cars coming the opposite direction in the other lane as a trigger to start braking. It is a very dangerous situation each time, so I turn off that feature every time I start driving now to avoid it.
The automatic emergency braking system will turn on when there is no danger. It happens often. The system is fooled easily. Yes it’s available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? With normal driving conditions this is not a huge problem but if this were to happen with slick roads. I could see this causing an accident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No - I’m not sure how this would be done. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No
No warning messages on dashboard. The drivers side mirror goes off like there's something there but there's nothing. Same with the braking display light comes on when I'm no where near anything, yet I've had cars pull out in front of me thankful no crash has happened because it doesn't go off then. I plan to take it into the dealership soon. I can't give an estimate of how long exactly it's been doing this. Especially side mirror warning. That's been going on. The braking thing has probably been a month now
The sensors simply don’t work. CMBS system constantly raises warnings, often alarming me as a driver, almost creating accidents. On one occasion, coming into a turning lane of intersection with green arrow and cars moving forward into left turn, CMBS actually applied the brakes for about 1 second, alarming me and causing the driver behind me to react as well. There’s no permanent disabling of this feature, which is a mistake by mfg, and we often forget to turn off starting each drive. Blind spot is often throwing false alarms. Lane detection too, but we permanently turn off lane detection.
Under many normal driving conditions, the front collision brake system activates. This has almost caused a collision as it shakes the wheel and applies the brakes.
When driving my vehicle the emergency braking system alerts and initiates the brakes at inappropriate time. While driving on a straight road with a curve ahead if there is a car coming the opposite direction around the curve the braking system will engage. I am not at the point to go into the curve yet so my steering wheel is still straight. If I have starting to turn it will not engage. This happens daily as it is a road I take to work. This has been happening since I purchased the vehicle in January 2023
Our 2021 Honda passport EX-L sometimes hits the brakes on its own. It happens every now and then, like when I'm exiting a freeway, or sometimes even when going with the flow of traffic. I've seen this issue talked about in the [XXX] , but today I saw an official article citing NHTSA concerns, so I'm writing to say that I too have experienced this potential dangerous issue while on road. My vehicle randomly brake checks on its own when it falsely detects the situation in front of me, which could result in a rear end collision. I'd like to see this issue resolved, so please feel free to contact me if you need any more information. Even back in 2022, I was experiencing this issue. This has happened occasionally. The last time was about a few weeks ago on the freeway. Please see the forum screenshot for my reference-- I'm [XXX] in that thread. Here's the article I read today: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I purchased my vehicle in August 2023 (used). Phone calls (both through using CarPlay and with the phone unplugged and with genuine cables) sound terrible on the part of the recipient. We replaced the FAKRA cables and harness late last year and just replaced the microphone (and I got charged a diagnosis fee). The issue is continuing. It's gotten so bad that I have to use my AirPods to make any calls for my recipient to hear anything I'm saying (which is illegal in my state and should not be a requirement in a car that is less than 3 years old). I've dug in to forums and this is a common issue for the EX-L trim level in the 2021 model. Additionally, this can impact the backup camera and other lane keeping assist issues. I have factory reset it multiple times and it's still having similar issues.

When the passport is in cruise control I have been driving up a very steep mountain and have had the car slam on brakes with no indication to the cars behind me or me intially causing everyone to come to a halt going up a mountain with a 9% incline. I realize you can adjust the distance but it still gives no warning and it is not as if you are tailo the car in front. I turn in my subdivision daily and if I let off the gas which I have to I the neighborhood and not have to break at five or ten mph something underneath feels as if it is catching like a bike break too close it scrubs. The final thing. I have started the car remotely many times. I have done it twice in parking lots and it has jumped forward . Had someone been in from of the car standing it jumped hard enough to hit someone. Or it the car facing mine had been closer it would have hit that car as well. Thank you
The contact owns a 2021 Honda Passport. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while driving at undisclosed speeds and making left or right turns, the vehicle independently decelerated. The contact stated that the engine revved, and the RPMs increased; however, the vehicle failed to respond with the accelerator pedal depressed. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle for the vehicle to return to normal operation. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened; however, the contact was recently informed that the case was closed. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
Tire sidewall separation. Tire manufacturer has recalled other tires with different mold numbers for this exact same issue but this tire isn't included in recall but has now shown the same issue. This could have caused a catastrophic blowout failure had I not caught.
Forward Collision Warning (FCW): At random intervals, the FCW will give a false positive warning of an imminent collision with a car approaching from the opposite direction. This has occurred at various times over the past 2+ years. Comments to this effect to the Honda service representatives have indicated that this anomaly has been reported previously. They have not provided a fix or software update to correct this issue. The event is a safety issue because of the distraction from focusing on the road ahead. Although the automatic braking system has not been employed, the driver may in response to the false warning apply the brakes and cause an accident inadvertently.
When using the audio system (Apple Airplay, Bluetooth, Sirius Navigation, or FM Radio), the speakers or radio will at some point start to crackle and make noises similar to static noise, like wires sparking. which causes the music to cut out and shut off completely. Our safety is at risk because the noise is very distracting, it is very annoying, it makes me nervous and angry because it becomes unbearable. I have to stop and turn off the car, turn it back on because I can't use music or browser or anything. I took it to the dealer where I bought it and they told me that it was a factory defect due to poorly installed cables. That creak is now constant that the car is barely drivable in those conditions. The equipment has not been inspected. I was never warned about this defect of the car. And I am sure I am overpaying for this car for it to have such a major and obvious issue.

Regarding NHTSA Recall Number 23V-174 Honda Campaign Number: FE5 Service Bulletin Number: 23-035 On May 1st, 2023, we dropped off our vehicle for service at Rick Roush Honda in Medina, Ohio for the recall noted above. Both side mirrors were replaced per the recall. Upon getting the vehicle back from the service department, we noticed that the driver's side (left) mirror had waves in it that made it look like a 'fun house mirror'. The dealership didn't have an additional mirror on hand, so we drove with this replacement mirror for a week until an additional replacement came in. The second replacement was just as bad as the first. Upon pulling off this mirror, the service department grabbed the first replacement as well as the original mirror and compared all three. The waviness didn't appear in any of the mirrors when they weren't installed, however, upon attaching either of the replacement mirrors to the mirror assembly the waviness returned. The service department then decided to install the original mirror back on the vehicle until they could find out what was wrong with the replacements. It's now been 85 days, and the service manager, [XXX] , hasn't heard back from his contacts at Honda in California. He stated they have had 7 to 8 others with the same complaint and are waiting on resolution for them as well. Honda forums posts show others with the same issues at other dealerships with these mirrors. I contacted Honda Customer Care today (7/25/2023) and they provided case
My car is equipped to cut off when you come to a stop. It has failed to restart after taking your foot off the brake a couple of times, and it has been slow to restart many times.
Driving 65mph on 3 lane highway in l=far left lane in light snow with anti-collision on. Then instantly car auto braked, car slowed dramatically very fast and despite me stepping on gas pedal, car continued at a crawl on major highway. Fortunately no car was close behind or it would have hot me with such rapid decent. I moved to the right shoulder across 3 lanes and car continued to be unresponsive to gas pedal. Honda stated that front camera must have been covered and thus system operated correctly. They did say gas should have responded when I turned the wheel, but it did not. Honda said it won't respond to gas pedal, but this is very dangerous and takes control from driver. The system should be a help but never take control when driver directs otherwise. Had there been more and closer traffic, an accident would have been likely
We drove about 100 miles yesterday. It all happened. False Brake light flash and brake applied because of oncoming traffic. Heavy brake application because of car in the left lane making a turn. Can't tell you how many times I've almost been rear ended, and people blasting their horns at me because this foolish car slams on the brakes for no reason. People think I'm brake checking them. Had 2 Hyundai before this, never encountered this. Honda needs to be forced to fix these issues. There are hundreds of similar complaints in online forum about this problem. This has happened many times, especially on an extended trip, like yesterday, over 100 miles round trip. Dealers do not have a fix for this. Honda needs to be forced to address this and fix all problem vehicles.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
