The steering sticks/binds when making small corrections in turns. When sticking it requires extra effort to turn, and then will over-correct. Problem seems worst when the steering wheel is turned between 15 degrees or more from center. Problem is intermittent and seems to get worse the farther the car is driven without stopping. Left hand decreasing radius curves seem to be the worst with the wheel sometime snapping/popping back when the accelerator is applied at the exit end of a curve. Maintaining control within my lane in a left turn at 30-70 mph is difficult when problem is most acute. This is definitely a safety issue which is disconcerting at best and dangerous at worst. Sometimes can feel the stickiness even when sitting still and turning the wheel past 20 degrees off-center, with occasional popping noises coming from the steering box. I am very concerned since this problem has gotten markedly worse in the last six months, even though it is still not consistent each time driven. There is definitely something wrong in the steering gearbox with something causing it to bind intermittently.

Rack of rack & pinion requires replacing. I had it checked at a Honda dealership. Problem was diagnosed. Told the part was back ordered until mid-September nationwide. Was told car was drivable. Internet has many reports of “sticky steering”. Although drivable, driving is not safe, according to many sources. I am uncertain if Honda covers this cost. It is not a listed recall. However, many reports of this problem exists. I don’t want my wife or me to be exposed to harm & we could harm others. Honda should take greater efforts to quickly take care of this dangerous situation.
3 times now, I am driving straight and flat about 35-40 MPH, dry conditions, and the AEB triggers with nobody around me at all.
My car has 10,800 miles on it. Yesterday as I was driving, I noticed the steering wheel sticking to where it needed extra force to turn it past that point. This is happening at very low speeds and at highway speeds. There is also a click/clunk noise that sounds like it’s coming from under the hood whenever this steering issue happens. Having to force the wheel makes me overcorrect which could make me go into another lane. I’m taking it to a dealer tomorrow. There are no warning lights or messages.
My 2022 CRV has had an intermittent issue where the steering wheel will stick when driving on extended gradual turns such as freeway off-ramps. The sticking steering has caused me to over steer multiple times. I notice that when the issue is present that there is also a creaking noise when turning the wheel. I have brought the vehicle to two different honda dealers and neither has been able to replicate the issue. There are no warning lamps or messages when the problem state occurs.
Collision Mitigation Braking System malfunctioned on 4/23/24 causing automatic abrupt braking when driving over metal hole cover in road. The braking was so intense the car behind our family nearly collided with our car. In the moment this happened the car was not in driver’s control as a result of malfunction. Contacted local Honda dealer by phone who was familiar with the issue and advised there is no doubt the cause is the CMBS and there is no diagnostics or resolution for the problem.
My Body Control Module failed and has been confirmed by the dealer. They are replacing it this morning. It’s been failing for close to a year I didn’t realize. It would set off the tire pressure monitor, caused the battery to die and turn on the brights. 3 days ago the alarm kept going off and turning the dashboard on. When I drove it to the dealer, multiple electronic systems were not working correctly. For a - barely- 3 year old car this isn’t a component that should be going bad!
The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Forward Collision Avoidance: Automatic Emergency Braking unintendedly activated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and diagnosed as phantom braking. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.
Brakes went on causing the car to almost come to a complete stop. Car went around the back of car. I was going 40 miles an hour. No car or anything in the road. Nice sunny day. This is the fourth time the brakes have gone on with nothing in front of car.
My 2022 CRV EXL's Automatic emergency braking system engaged without warning for no reason; there were No obstructions on the road twice. Once on the 91 Eastbound freeway around 8:30pm going over 55mph when there were no obstructions for a fraction of a second while my wife and two young children were in the vehicle.
Periodic irregular intervention by the vehicle safety system applying braking force and/or steering input to no threat. Mainly happens at highway speeds, but sometimes occurs just above 40 mph.
On a number of occasions, my car will sound the emergency braking system beep, flash the BRAKE alert on the drivers message screen, and less frequently, apply the brakes independently when nothing is in front of my car. The warnings flash when the car thinks I am too close to a car turning out of my lane but several times this has happened when nothing is in front of me at all. On at least two occasions, full braking was applied when nothing was in front of the car.
When vehicle is operating on a curve either going left or right the steering is binding requiring driver to apply force to correct steering. First year had not experienced. This year it is progressively getting worse. Vehicle was purchased June 2022 and now April 2024. I am reading this complaint across multiple on-line platforms for Honda CR-V's.
Steering wheel sticking while driving and requiring more effort to turn
The steering wheel feels sticky, especially when taking a gentle left curve and also when driving straight. This started happening after about 7500 miles. The amount of force needed to break the stickiness isn't much, but it is unsettling and causes concern. It almost stays in place when releasing both hand from the wheel. I think this should be associated with investigation number EA23003. I brought the vehicle in to the dealer but was told to schedule a diagnostic appointment which has yet to be done. There are no warning lights or alerts concerning this
My wife's Honda 2022 CRV EXL Steering started sticking at about 10,000 miles September 2023. I got it to dealer last week 4-1-2024 at 15,000 miles and they confirmed Rack and Pinion had to be replaced. The parts are on back order with a September 2024 delivery date! This is unacceptable!! The car is almost and possibly dangerous to drive! Honda has known about this issue for a long time now. Oh and the dealer had 5 cars with the same issue ahead of me with September parts delivery date!!
My vehicle was parked in my closed garage. My car's sunroof shattered when I came back to the car to drive it out for the evening. The incident happened in my closed garage. I took it to the dealership and the dealership said that they have no idea what happened. They didn't look too much into a diagnosis and just stated it could be environmental reasons even though it was in my closed garage. I contacted Honda and let them know about it and they refused to look more into it as well. They said since they don't know the reason, its environmental. I think this is a safety issue since it could be related to faulty glass or improper installation, maybe a defect. I also think it was improper for Honda to not investigate the issue on their side and figure out a proper diagnosis. I think this is very dangerous since I could have taken out the car and opened the sunroof headliner and glass could have been in my face and disrupted my driving.
When driving, the steering "sticks" when making a left turn. You have to forcefully turn it back to the right to straighten the vehicle out. It has been doing this for about 6 months, but has progressively gotten worse. The issue was confirmed at the Honda dealer service shop where we purchased the vehicle. They told us it would cost $2,960 to have it repaired. They said it was the electronic steering gear. The car is out of warranty because of mileage, even though we purchased it new in September of 2022. The service rep said he has at least 10 others waiting on the same repair.
While driving, occasionally the steering wheel becomes sticky or locks while turning. Because its sticky, it can cause to oversteer.
BATTERTY ISSUE: November 11, 2023 and February 13, 2024 dead batteries- 2 roadside assistances. November 11, 2023 battery replaced at dealership. February 13, 2024 diagnostics done on battery-not replaced. I am advised to start my car every three days to keep the battery charged-the new technology is draining the battery while the car its shut down and not in use for a period of time. To say this is an inconvenience is putting it mildly. The dealership suggested I buy a battery charger so I can handle this problem on my own.
I change my oil about every 3,000 with FULL SYNTHETIC oil. I check the oil level to make sure it isn’t low. I smell a very strong odor of gasoline on the dipstick. I’ve heard Honda has been having a problem with oil dilution. My CRV is very hesitant at times and almost caused me to get into an accident on a few occasions. Something needs to be done about this and the Government needs Honda to issue a recall. Also they’re having an electrical issue. The dash and screen flicker on and off. This is very frustrating especially at night.
235/60R18 103H On January 20 and January 21, we were coming back from road travel on Long Island, New York and received a low-pressure indicator. We serviced the tires and did not have an issue until Wednesday January 24 again a low-pressure indicator. We took the vehicle to Mr. Tire in Lewes Delaware and were told the same tire had a second puncture but all the tires had low wear and extensive cracking. We paid $85.67 for Mr. Tire to put on the spare. [XXX] felt at 24,582 miles OEM tires should not fail. [XXX] contacted the Pohanka dealer and the dealer indicated they were having some premature failure issues with the tires and would pick the vehicle up. Before Pohanka could pick up the vehicle [XXX] was driving local less than 10 miles and the driver side rear tire split and completely failed. As such when Pohanka called they arranged a tow to their dealership to inspect the tires. Upon inspection it was determined the tires were failed INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds under 40 MPH, the brake was independently activated. The contact stated that the brake now message was displayed on the instrument cluster. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the dust or dirt on the milliliter wave radar needed to be cleaned. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
When steering along long curves on the highway and then trying to straighten the steering wheel, the steering wheel will feel stuck and take a bit more force to overcome the position it gets stuck at before being able to be straightened out. Adding this amount of force to overcome the stuck steering wheel causes the car to swerve slightly. This typically is observed on sweeping curves to the right. Appears to follow NHTSA inv #EA23003
The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the message to depress the brake pedal was displayed. The contact stated that the transmission failed to shift out of neutral. The vehicle was towed a dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 18,000.
The steering wheel will freeze up, and I have to forcibly jerk the wheel to the opposite direction to return directional control. This typically happens at freeway speeds in sweeping right hand turns. This problem has gotten worse over time. Problem not common in left hand turns, or at lower speeds.
I had a medium sized doe run in front of the vehicle while on the highway. I had the adaptive cruise control set to 62 MPH with lane keeping assist and all other safety features enabled. When the deer ran out out in front of the vehicle the emergency breaking did not engage, nor did it flash the warning or make the chime. It caused major damage to the front center and drivers side of the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. However, after the collision, the airbag light on the dash illuminated and stayed on. The airbag light has never came on before other than the illumination test when first starting the car. Also, the Hazzard lights did not com on automatically. The collision had enough impact to send the several hundred pound deer over 100' down the road. The only safety feature that partly worked was the retracting seat belts. I say partly worked because only the lap portion tightened. There was no tightening of the shoulder portion, which is now locked in place.
The rear windshield in my 2022 CR-V EX randomly shattered when we opened the driver's side door. There was no impact from any objects as the vehicle was stationary all night. We believe it may be related to others' issues with HR-V's as well with the rear windshield randomly shattering.
I was driving my 2021 Honda CR-V vehicle at residential speed (exact speed unknown). Car suddenly stopped in street causing me to jerk forward in driver seat. As the car stopped, I saw the orange BRAKE symbol appear in front dash. I was accelerating at time of incident. I was not using the brakes. I was injured with severe whiplash. Pain so severe that I also made an error with administration of a pain reliever when I arrived home. This put me and my passenger at risk due to the failure of what I learned was the CMBS in my vehicle. If another car was following too closely behind me at the time the car abruptly stopped, this could have been a more serious accident. This incident happened today 11/22/2023 at approximately 11:30 am EST. I have not had an opportunity to contact the dealer as I have been in pain since it happened. Also, a few weeks ago, I noticed the BRAKE symbol appeared while driving while accelerating. The car jerked but it did not fully stop. Date of that incident unknown. The car has not yet been inspected by anyone since today’s incident. I found information about the CMBS issue for my car type after searching for a known recall online this evening.
I was in a dedicated lane to make a left turn. There was no vehicle in front of me and no pedestrians in the crosswalk. I was coasting to the light at about 20mph or less as I could see that it was red and because I am familiar with the intersection , I knew it would not turn green immediately. At 2 to 3 car lengths back from where I was going to stop all of a sudden the car jolted to a stop. The car immediately shut down (quit running). There was no car behind me or I am sure my car would have been rear ended. I got out of the car to see if there was something under it or if I could see if something had fallen off the underside of the car. I tried to restart the car but it would not start. By that time there were 2 cars behind me waiting to turn. I got out of the car and went back to the nearest car and told the driver she needed to go around my car. I got back into my car and tried to restart it and it started. I had absolutely no warning before this happened. I did not take the car for an inspection but I did call the salesman (as soon as I could). He said it might be because of the forward collision system and suggested that I could turn it off. He said that the system is very sensitive and even a leaf might set it off. Even though it was in October, it was not a windy day and most trees in my area had not started losing their leaves. I bought this car because of the safety equipment as I am [XXX] and in good health, but I am a practical person. I did tell the salesman th
The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the contact heard an unusual cracking sound. The contact stated that the next morning while getting ready to enter the vehicle, he noticed a three-inch stress crack across the bottom center of the front windshield. The contact stated that the following morning, when he entered the vehicle, the stress crack had extended to six inches across the bottom center of the front windshield. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,550.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the contact’s daughter’s head had got stuck in the window. The contact’s grandmother attempted to lower the window, but the window failed to roll down. When the window was finally rolled down, the contact’s daughter was unconscious. The contact’s daughter needed CPR and was left with bruising on her neck and upper back. The contact’s daughter received medical attention in the ER. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.
2 issues: 1. Automatic Emergency Braking started braking randomly when there was no danger at all. 2. Got Lane Departure Warning a few times, when the vehicle actually stayed in the lane.
My car has rust on mos of the entire interrior of the car. Underneath the dash, the seat rails and metal pieces that attach the gas pedal and brakes
The sunroof exploded as I was driving. There were no cars around me. Glass blew outward and I was concerned about any cars that would follow. I took photos and then took the car into my Honda dealer. They claim a rock hit it. I know that could not have happened. The car is only 6 months old. There was no warning before it happened. If I had the sunroof open, glass could have affected me and/or my passenger. My insurance agent has also seen the photos. The sunroof is being replaced today, a month after it exploded. I had to cover the opening with plastic sheeting and painters tape to keep the area dry.
Air bag light on dashboard turns on and won’t turn off. Honda in Valencia, CA looked at vehicle and stated nothing could be done.
I have 9,000 miles on my vehicle. The driver seat belt stopped latching during a drive .
My car has slammed on the brakes 3 times since May 5 for no reason causing the tires to squall and throw me into the wheel.
Parts not staying together
Automatic Emergency Braking\Forward Collision Warning. I've got this vehicle as a brand-new about 10 months ago. Since fall 2022 there were several wrong BRAKE notifications on IP cluster screen with beeping signal while the road was clear, empty with no no precipitation weather. Probably the hill-like road surface can be a reason. Today it is sunny. My lane was clean and empty. In the left U-turn lane was a Chevrolet Tahoe or similar GMC vehicle with rear radar device noticable by rear bumper shape (it could be a reason of incident). When I was accelerating and getting closer to that vehicle but staying in my lane, my vehicle unexpectedely automatically used brackes for couple seconds until - I assume - the left vehicle has been passed or it just drove out. Several hours later my chest still aching besause of seatbelt hit. I saw similar complains at NHTSA so I was kind of ready to that...
Driving N on Hwy US-24 in Redford MI near Detroit Diesel at approx 45mph on Sun morning 4/30/2023, the moonroof exploded and shattered glass fell onto driver and front seat passenger. Shattered glass also broke loose and fell to rear of vehicle, causing car behind us to avoid debris by changing lane. The sudden failure of sun/moonroof was without warning, no apparent object struck it, we were not passing under a bridge. The loud boom of explosion was alarming to driver and passenger. The shade was open and we quickly closed it to stop more broken glass from falling onto us. It was raining, approximately 40-45 deg F outside, the car interior temp was 68 deg F. We made temporary repair with cardboard and emergency rain poncho to close opening in roof. We proceeded home at 30-40mph. I collected broken glass by hand, then vacuumed all interior surfaces thoroughly; found no foreign object that could have struck glass. We contacted dealer Monday reporting problem. Dealer stated Honda unlikely to cover glass under warranty claim. Dealer stated there was no recall, technical bulletin or product update concerning sun/moonroofs spontaneously exploding. Dealer did contact Honda and replacement was made under warranty as 'goodwill.' We are happy Honda covered cost of replacement, but did not acknowledge any material defect, workmanship or safety issue. Vehicle is kept in garage when home and open parking lot at work; to our knowledge the roof glass panel was not compromised by any object
I was driving in slow-moving traffic (about 10 or 15 mph) as there were several police officers walking in the shoulder to the right of traffic. The brakes suddenly and strongly engaged for no reason. There was no steel plate in the road, no slowed or stopped vehicle or pedestrian in my path. As far as I know the brake warning light did not come on. The abrupt braking caused my neck and back to hurt, and I thought I had hit a child or a dog. As I looked behind me there was clearly nothing in my lane. I could have been rear-ended but was not.
Driver seat is loose and rocking under acceleration
When I put my child’s car set in the middle, or anyone sitting in my back middle seat the person sitting on the left hand side can not buckle there seat belt because the way that the buckles are put in it has to cross over the buckle for the middle seat. I brought it to the dealership they said there is nothing they can do to fix it that’s how all the models are made. It’s not safe and not convenient. I only realized this recently when I had my most recent child and actually needed to use all 3 seats with car seats.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while reversing out of her parking lot, the vehicle made an abnormal sound while depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed but no issues were found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Consumer sates the incidents occurred before Aug. 2022. Actual incident date not received.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 40-45 MPH, the vehicle buzzed and came to a complete stop with the collision mitigation braking system (CMBS) engaged. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal and was able to continue driving. The contact stated that there were no vehicles or objects nearby the vehicle at the time of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure occurred despite turning off the CMBS. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 28,457.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, an abnormal, knocking noise was coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the oil level was low. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure due to a lack of engine oil. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
The car intermittently slams on the brakes, often at high speeds, and the brakes sticks, leaving me potentially unable to avoid a rear-end collision. This has happened twice with no obstacle in front of the vehicle in the last month and once within the last month where an obstacle was ahead but at a far enough distance the AES should not have been triggered, let alone stick. The front sensors (behind the rear view mirror and behind the Honda logo on the grill) have been inspected for damage by the dealership and user. They are in perceivably good working condition. This problem appears to be connected to a similar malfunction with LKAS, in which the system is turned off (according to the vehicle displays and verified by following owner manual instructions) and the car is driven on a surface with no lanes (I.e. a dirt road) and LKAS indicates there is a lane departure. There is no option to turn either system completely off, which leaves the driver with no recourse in the event these systems malfunction.
There have been approximately 10 times I was driving my CRV and was exiting the interstate onto the exit ramp with no cars in front of me and the automatic brakes came on attempting to stop my car for no reason. I took it to my local Honda dealership and told them what had happened and they said there was nothing they could do about it. This is a dangerous issue and could easily cause an accident.
Unknown- I did receive a letter appears to be from Honda Automobile Division stating a EPS Gearbox Replacement. NHTSA website didn't have any recalls for my 2022 Honda CR-V. Honda dealership didn't appear knowledgeable with the recall and said they haven't had anyone else come in for the repair. Is it a legitimate recall?

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
