2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid complaints

I received notification from Honda of a recall on my battery cable harness. The defect increases the likelihood of a fire during a crash. The notification was revevied in January so I called to make an appointment to have it repaired. I was told the part was not available and to call back in 30-days. I contacted another dealer in my area and they told me the same thing. I've been calling every 30-days and get the same response, "call back in 30-days." The notifiation states if I can't get the repair done within 60-days of trying to make an appointment, I could file a complaint with your agency. Therefore, I'm doing just that. It's been almost 5 months.

Brakes being applied with apparent no reason. It gets applied automatically even when there is no obstruction in front.

In the past 4 months car stalled on expressway 3 times. on the first occurrence dealer informed us that no error code were found. Second time repair shop (dealer) found body control module error code and replaced the body control module. On the third occurrence we are waiting for repair assessment. In all three occasions check engine light will blink and pressing accelerator won't give any power to the vehicle. Restarting the engine usually will allow us to drive normally. But in the third occurrence restarting didn't resolve the issue.

Driving at 35-40 mph the automatic brakes "Panic" stopped. No car, person or animal in front of car. This happened once before but I thought a construction crew on the roadside may have caused it the firs time.

The part that failed is called the "ELECTRONIC SERVO PEDAL SIMULATOR UNIT", aka "SET, BOS ASSM." aka "BRAKE PEDAL SIMULATOR (SIMULATOR SET, PEDAL FEEL)" aka "BRAKE PEDAL OPERATING SIMULATOR". The Honda (OEM) part number is 01469-TPG-A95. The part failure was diagnosed at Buckeye Honda in Lancaster, Ohio, in coordination with the Tech department at Honda corp., and was replaced at Buckeye Honda in Lancaster, Ohio. The Buckeye Honda (service department) said that they had not seen this problem before, so they contacted the Tech Dept. at Honda to seek assistance in the diagnosis. The safety of the vehicle occupants was put at risk by the almost complete loss of brake functions and the interacting functions. At first the Brake warning and AVS warning lights would illuminate on the driver's display, and then they would go off and everything would function normally. But the driver' display warnings got more frequent and the brakes would not function normally. Finally, all of the driver's display warnings would sequence through, one by one, and the brakes were almost entirely gone. The Honda dealer did not give me the faulty part because he said it would have to be sent to Honda. I do not know if Honda America will inspect the part to determine the cause of the failure. Some time in 2021 is the estimated date of occurrence of the event I am describing next. I was cruising on a freeway [XXX] ), traveling at about 65 miles an hour. It was a clear day with light traffic, around noon. There was no car in front of mine. There were no cars adjacent to mine either. Then I saw with my eyes a partially deflated mylar balloon (silvery and shiny) floating across (left to right) my path of travel. I estimate that the vertical position of the balloon was less than the height of a typical bus or a semi-truck. Its float path was rather random - up and down. Its distance from my car was about 5 to 10 car length (very rough estimate) when I first noticed it. Since I easily recognized it as a light-weight balloon (typical party balloon), I determined that it would not do any harm to my car even if timing was such that my car came in contact with it. So, I did not take any evasive action - I did not apply brakes and I did not change to another lane. But this is when my CR-V's automatic braking system engaged with a sudden deceleration, "BRAKE" warning light on the dash along with a series of beeping. The whole event lasted a few seconds after which the car responded normally to my gas-pedal input. Luckily there was no car following me when this automatic braking occurred. Car stalled twice on highway going 55 miles to zero.pressing accelaerator wont make any difference. Thw malfunction infmdicator starts blinking when it happanes. Once the car comes to a complete stop and restart the engine then only we can continue to drive. Also malfunction infdcator goes away after restarting.We brought the car dealer and since there is no diagnostic code they wouldnt repair.

Driving down the highway on April 6, 2024 I hear a loud explosion and the passenger rear window had exploded sending glass flying everywhere. The window is completely exploded. Today was the first warm day that I had to turn the air conditioning on in the car and 5-10 min after I turned the air-conditioning on, the window exploded.

Back hatch closes on me when I am putting stuff in the back. This has happened at least 6 times. The very last time on March 10, 2024, it the hatch door came down on my head & arm. It almost hit my eye. I got bruised on above my eye & my arm. The sensor thinks I am setting it off.

Central display screen goes blank at random times at start up. May or may not reactivate with a reboot or restart of car. Display screen controls heating / cooling as well as provides access to other features such as reset of the tire-pressure monitoring system. I don't think it is safe to operate without heating or cooling when the weather is extreme. (It also provides the audio controls and smart-phone interface which includes navigation--which is on a much larger screen than a phone making for a safer experience)

While driving in the freeway at 65mph, car starts to loose power, the accelerator does not respond to the push of the pedal. Even if I press the gas, the car just shows in the dashboard that the car is receiving power but speed lingers in 50mph but it clearly is way below this speed and keeps decreasing even if it shows the 50mph, the car just cruises with it’s own momentum. The hybrid battery depletes completely and warning lights start flashing to check engine. The car will also jerk front to back and the main motor will make a loud noise as if at high power with a hint of rattling. It’s difficult to maneuver between high speed vehicles passing by while not having any power in the vehicle. The only thing I can do is turn on my hazard lights and cruise to the right lane and look for the first exit and safely park. As soon as I park the vehicle, it will continue to keep with the rattling and the warning lights and high power noise. If I turn off the vehicle and turn it on again, the hybrid battery will reappear with charge and it doesn’t make any sound (hybrid standby). It will drive normal after this. My vehicle was purchased from dealership in 2021 and the first incident was in December of 2022, it did not repeat this incident until February 2024 where it did it twice, one week exactly apart from each incident under the exact same circumstances and the same area of the freeway as soon as I hit the first top speed of 65mph in the freeway.

Lost acceleration while driving on major highways on three separate occasions in less than a year's time. Noticed a recall for similar circumstances on the same year and model as mine but was told by dealer that mine was not part of the recall. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed as I do not want to be in a situation where this happens again. These incidents happened in September, 2022, March 2023, and July 2023. I will put the latest date in additional details below. PLEASE NOTE: This is my second notice of safety concern of my vehicle. I sent a complaint to this administration on 08/25/2023 and did not receive any word or confirmation. Please confirm receipt of this information. Thank you for your help.

Started the car and drove out of garage and had break failure. My wife was driving and she said that when pushing hard on breaks there was very little break ability (at speed there would be none) At this time a bunch of lights went on warning about break failure. Fortunately this happened at the initiating of driving. (A similar account is in the uploaded document). According to Honda the break operating simulator failed (the equivalent of a master cylinder). Honda replace the breaks with the same part and as I was told there was not updates or fixes to the faulty parts. The car had all it services and are really well looked after it has only 25000 miles on the clock. No modern day car should have break failure after 25000 miles. On three separate occasions, I was driving on the highway and lost power to accelerate causing a safety issue as I was on a fast-moving highway and had to find an exit or pull over. The three times were September 22, 2022, March 23, 2023 and July 23, 2023. The first time I had it towed to Hennessy Honda in Woodstock, GA. They were unable to determine anything was wrong. The second time, I pulled off the highway, waited 5 minutes and then was able to start and continue to my neighborhood mechanic, Bridgemill Auto Repair in Canton, GA. Again they found nothing to explain the loss of drive power. The third time I was able to get off the highway at a nearby exit and, again, waited for 5-10 min before starting and resuming. When I saw the recall notice on 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid Recalls, I realized this must be the issue. I brought my car to Ed Voyles Honda in Marietta, GA near my job on August 21, 2023 to have it checked out. They said that this was not on the list of recalls, but if it happened again to bring it back to them to have it checked out. I do not want to wait for this to happen again as this is a safety issue and has obviously happened with other 2020 CR-V Hybrids such as mine. I drive 45 minutes on major highways to work daily and can never be sure when it will happen the next time if I will be able to manage to avoid a crash causing injury to me, occupants in my car, and other cars on the highway. Please advise.

Complete brake failure while in motion.

The contact was able to immediately release the brake pedal and the vehicle accelerated normally. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to identify the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred while driving approximately 40 MPH. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.

I lose power when driving on the freeway.

Twice, I've been driving down the road, and the emergency braking system has engaged with no car near me. I get thrown against the seatbelt hard enough that it triggers the seatbelt to lock. I'm sure I would have been rear-ended if someone had been behind me. My foot was still on the gas both times it happened. I'm now scared to drive my car because I don't know when it will suddenly break hard and, maybe, hard enough to trigger airbags.

The contact owns a 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH a loud banging noise suddenly occurred and the vehicle had become undrivable. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the front passenger’s side wheel had failed and was positioned sideways. The vehicle was eventually towed the local collision center who diagnosed that the front passenger’s side lower ball joint disintegrated causing the wheel to pull away from the axle and the sway bar to fail. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 10,000.

Check engine warning light comes one, vehicle powers down from normal speed and will not exceed 30 MPG. This is a safety hazard on the highway. Problem has been reproduced by the dealer and we have recorded video of the occurrences. Vehicle was purchased new and is under warranty. Has been in the dealer for more than 40 days combined for issue with no resolution and the dealer has received instructions from Honda USA not to attempt any further repairs. Dealer stated Honda is aware of the issues in isolated cars and are working on a fix but does not have one. Honda has been sent a written notice and contacted by me on multiple occasions, has promised call backs but has never responded. There have been multiple occurrences of the same issue with no resolution to date from Honda.

For the 2nd time in a span of ~6 months, the 2020 Honda CR-V randomly slowed down/tried to come to an abrupt halt in the middle of the freeway. Terrifying experience both times as it could have easily resulted in being in a fatal collision. I took this to the dealership immediately after the first time it happened but they deemed it as a "phantom issue". This happened again TODAY and I don't know what to do. Battery meter seemed to be on the lower end but was not empty. Things seemed to be normal.

Additionally, while driving and exceeding 70 MPH, the Forward Collision Avoidance: Adaptive Cruise Control independently activated, and the vehicle decelerated. The dealer was contacted and notified of the failure. The dealer suggested cleaning the forward-facing camera system. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 18,359.

Driving down I-40 with lane keeping and cruise control on the car tries to stop when it comes up to a car on the right. Driving down a two lane road with lane keeping and cruise and it will try to stop for vehicles coming towards me but they are in their lane.

After cleaning window, I knocked the wiper blades back on the windshield & the far-weighted end of the wiper blade cracked the windshield so badly that it needed to be replace, about 2 fourteen inch cracks.

This is the second visit to the dealership involving a faulty sensor with the air pressure monitor. Warning light comes on indicates that the vehicle has low tire pressure. Running the risk of over inflating the tires. First time the vehicle was checked and told there was no issue and the tire pressure monitor was reset. Second visit and again the same issue. Told this was reoccurring problems with the Honda system and if it occurs again, just return and the technicians will check it and reset it again. The pattern of the problem occurring with highway travel for about an hour.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE I70 TO GO SKIING WITH 3 PASSENGERS, DURING PORTIONS OF THE ROAD WITH STEEP GRADES, THE CAR WAS UNABLE TO GO THE SPEED LIMIT. DESPITE APPLYING 95 TO 100% POWER, CARS WERE PASSING. THIS IS A NEW CAR AND IS CLEARLY A DESIGN FLAW - AS A HYBRID ONCE THE ASSISTIVE BATTERIES ARE DEPLETED, IT IS ONLY RUNNING ON THE ENGINE - AT ALTITUDE THE ENGINE IS STARVED FOR OXYGEN AND DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH POWER. THIS IS EXTREMELY STRESSFUL ON THE DRIVER AND UNSAFE WHILE IN THE MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN.

CAR HAS AUTO LIFT AND CLOSE FOR REAR DOOR. WHEN LOADING REAR OR VEHICLE DOOR WILL CLOSE WITHOUT WARNING. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE, BOTH TIMES I WAS UNDER DOOR WHEN IR CLOSED, ONCE IT HIT ME IT STOPPED AND WENT BACK UP, I ALMOST FELL DOWN. ITEM 2. WHEN WASHING REAR OF CAR REAR DOOR WILL OPEN ON ITS OWN WHILE SPRAYING DOOR . IF THIS WOULD HAPPEN IN AN AUTOMATIC WASH IT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE OR INJURIES TO OCCUPANTS. THIS CAN HAPPEN WHEN CAR IS OFF NOT RUNNING. THANKS.

NEW VEHICLE WITH APPROX. 3,000 MILES BECAME COMPLETELY DISABLED ON HIGHWAY AND EXPOSED OCCUPANTS TO EXTREME DANGER. DEALERSHIP REPORTED THAT A "FAULTY BRAKE SENSOR" WAS THE CAUSE OF THE VEHICLE BECOMING INOPERABLE. VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT 60 MPH AND ENGINE DIED ON AN UNDERPASS TURN BARELY VISIBLE TO TRAFFIC BEHIND AND WAS ALMOST HIT BY A SEMI CRUISING AT 60+ MPH. FAILURE OF ALL SYSTEMS RESULTED AND COULD HAVE KILLED THE HONDA CR-V OCCUPANTS.

I LEASED A BRAND NEW CR-V AND 12 HOURS AFTER I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP IT MALFUNCTIONED. WHILE DRIVING 7 MPH IN MY APARTMENT COMPLEX MY BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP CAUSING ME TO BUMP INTO A CONCRETE SIDEWALK BARRIER. MY COMPUTER SYSTEM ALERTED ME TO SYSTEM FAILURES FOR POWER STEERING, BRAKING, AWD, ETC. THE ONLY DAMAGE WAS SCUFFED UP TIRES AND HUBCAPS. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID I WRECKED THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS NO MALFUNCTION. THEY ALSO SAID THE WHEEL ROD WAS BENT TO A 90 DEGREE ANGLE. I FIND IT VERY CONCERNING THAT THE WHEEL ROD COULD BE BENT THAT MUCH WHILE ONLY GOING 7MPH. THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT BELIEVE THAT THE VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING ME TO WRECK AN ARE ADAMANT I CAUSED ALL THE ISSUES. THIS IS A SERIOUS MALFUNCTION AN I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE TODAY.

I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH AND A MESSAGE FLASHED ON MY DISPLAY OF A PROBLEM WITH MY TRANSMISSION. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR IT SEEMED OK. THE CAST HAS ABOUT 5000 MILES ON IT.

2020 NEW HONDA CR-V HYBRID - THERE'S A VIBRATION AND NOISE ASSOCIATED WITH IT. AT TWO MONTHS OLD, HONDA DETECTED IT IN BOTH MY CAR AND TWO OTHER NEW ONES THEY PULLED FROM THEIR LOT TO SEE IF IT WAS IN ANY OTHER NEW ONES. I WAS TOLD "THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME ISSUE ONLY WORSE THAN YOURS". ORIGINALLY I NOTICED IT AT 63 MPH (SO DID THE SHOP FOREMAN WHO DROVE IT WITH ME), BUT NOW, I'M EXPERIENCING IT ON SURFACE STREETS AS WELL. IT REMAINS CONSTANT REGARDLESS OF ACCELERATION OR DECELERATION. THE DEALERSHIP MADE EVERY ATTEMPT TO CORRECT IT - TRIED NEW TIRE(S), REAR ALIGNMENT, ETC. THEY TEST DROVE IT MORE THAN ONCE, BUT IN THE END, THEY ADMITTED TO ME THAT IT WAS STILL THERE AND LIKELY A CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS MODEL. "DRIVE TRAIN" WAS MENTIONED AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE. I DID TEST DRIVE IT BEFORE I BOUGHT IT AND WHILE IT DID FEEL A BIT DIFFERENT FROM MY 2017 CR-V, I ATTRIBUTED IT TO ME NOT BEING ACCUSTOMED TO AWD. HOWEVER, THE MORE I'VE DRIVEN IT, THE MORE I REALIZE IT'S SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH THAT I WOULD BE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE ON A LONG TRIP. ALL THIS SAID, THE ISSUE OF SAFETY KEEPS LOOMING - IF IT IS THE DRIVE TRAIN, IS IT WEARING DOWN ALREADY (NOT BEING MECHANICALLY MINDED, DOES A DRIVE TRAIN WEAR DOWN?) AND AT WHAT POINT MIGHT IT CAUSE A REAL PROBLEM AT HIGH SPEED (OR ANY SPEED!)? FOR CLARITY - THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN ROUGHLY NOR HIT ANY OBSTACLE OR CURB. I AM WRITING A LETTER TO HONDA CORPORATE OFFICES AS WELL. A SHOUT OUT TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON AT MY HONDA DEALER. I KNOW FIRST YEAR

THE AUTOMATIC CLOSING OF THE TAILGATE IS HAZARDOUS AND HAS CLOSED ON ME SEVERAL TIMES. CAR WAS PARKED AND NOT MOVING EVERY TIME LEANING INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WITH FEET UNDER THE BUMPER IS ENOUGH TO CLOSE THE TAILGATE.. TURNING AROUND WHEN NEAR THE BUMPER WILL CAUSE IT TO CLOSE.ONE TIME I WAS KNOCKED DOWN TRING TO AVOID THE CLOSING AND FELL AND TOOK SEVERAL LAYERS OF SKIN OFF MY SHOULDER AND ARM. ONCE IT STARTS IT WILL NOT STOP EVEN IF A PERSON TRIES TO HOLD IT.

VERY DISTRACTED OPERATION WHEN THE AVAS ACOUSTIC VEHICLE ALERT SYSTEM PRODUCES STRANGE NOISES AT LOW SPEED. THIS HAS NO VALUE IN ANY NORMAL DRIVING SITUATION EXCEPT TO UNNECESSARILY DISTRACT THE DRIVER AND THE VEHICLES NEARBY.. THE SYSTEM CAN NOT BE DISABLED. NO MORE THAN ADDITION NOISE POLLUTION WITHOUT VALUE. *TR
