I am the owner of a 2024 GMC Yukon (VIN: [XXX] ), purchased from Hatchett Buick GMC on [XXX]. This vehicle was purchased at a high price with the expectation that it would provide reliability and keep my family safe. Unfortunately, that is clearly not happening. The Yukon continues to suffer from severe power loss that neither the dealership nor GM technicians have been able to diagnose or repair. In addition, this vehicle is subject to an unresolved engine recall, further undermining safety and confidence in the vehicle. Multiple times while driving I have had total power loss with no warning or indicators of this happening through lights or warnings on the vehicle. This is separate from the engine recall issues I am currently experiencing as well. While driving the Yukon will lose all electrical power. The vehicle is still currently at the dealership trying to be diagnosed. It has been 2 weeks. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have had several time that going down the highway at around 70 MPH with the cruise control on. Know other cars or trucks around me, my car loses power, put on the brakes. If I press on the gas petal, the car will accelerate. Never a warning, scares the heck out of you. Fortunately when this happens I have never had a car or truck behind me. If there would be a car or truck behind me, this could cause a collision for sure. No warning lights comes on. I've told the GMC dealer twice about this. Twice I was told to make another service appointment to bring my Yukon back. I was told that no service tech was available to look at this at this time.

I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM WHERE THE SCREEN GOES BLANK. THE RADIO IS NOT RESPONDING AND SCREEN IS BLACK. WHEN TURNING ON THE SIGNAL LIGHT YOU CAN'T HEAR IT. THE SPEED LIMIT IN MY TOWN IS 25 AND AFTER AN UPDATE FROM THE DEALERSHIP IT NOW SAYS 55. I GET AN ALERT SAYING FRONTAL CRASH NOT AVAILABLE ATLEAST ONCE A MONTH. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WE ARE DRIVING AND WE GET THE RED ALERT AS TO DETECTING AN OBJECT AND THERE IS NOTHING THERE. PARKING ASSITS DOES NOT WORK ALL THE TIME.

While super cruise was engaged the car changed lanes automatically without any action on my part. The problem is I had set the automatic lane change feature to only activate when the turn signal was switched. While examining the vehicle settings I discovered that the feature was set to automatic not turn signal activated. What cause the software to change this setting? The service tech could not find any problem but guessed that when the software is updated it goes to a default setting. This is wrong. Setting should not change. The setting also changed on opening the tail gate with my foot. This setting was turned off.

I am the owner of a 2024 GMC Yukon Denali/AT4-T1, currently subject to GM Program #N252494000 for the L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion engine defect that can cause sudden engine failure, loss of power, and safety hazards. My vehicle has approximately 18,000 miles and is my primary mode of transportation. GM has informed me that I cannot request an immediate inspection and that they are randomly selecting affected vehicles for inspection without a clear timetable. This means I must continue driving a vehicle with a known safety defect that could fail at any moment — creating an unreasonable risk for myself, my passengers, and others on the road. My dealership has confirmed they cannot perform the inspection until GM activates my VIN in their system. No estimated timeframe has been provided. Given the severity of the defect and the potential for catastrophic failure without warning, I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate GM’s phased approach to inspections and determine whether this practice is consistent with the safety obligations under 49 U.S.C. Chapter 301 and related regulations. I also request guidance on how I can have my vehicle inspected immediately to mitigate risk. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I had just backed the truck out of a parking space (while turning) and shifted the transmission into 'Drive' with my foot pressing the brake pedal (not the gas pedal). When I took my foot off the brake pedal in order to transfer it to the gas pedal the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward without my foot ever pressing the gas pedal. The vehicle traveled forward about 20 feet before I was able to stop it by pressing the brake pedal. I am a retired General Motors Safety engineer and I know I was not pressing the gas (accelerator) pedal when this sudden acceleration event occurred. I believe this type of event occurred one other time while I was driving this vehicle. However, I am not as clear about the circumstances surrounding this previous event.

I am filing a complaint regarding a potential safety defect in my 2024 GMC Yukon Denali (approx. 25,000 miles), which has been in the dealership’s service department for about 30 days due to a faulty valve body in the transmission system. There is currently no estimated date for repair completion due to a lack of available parts. This is the second time the vehicle has been in the shop for the same unresolved issue. Earlier in 2025, I brought the car in due to driveability concerns and error messages appearing on the dash, but the dealership dismissed it and claimed I had “turned the vehicle on wrong,” despite it having a push-button start. The problem persisted until June 2025, when they finally diagnosed the valve body failure. This issue directly affects drivability and vehicle safety, particularly during acceleration and gear shifting. I am concerned that General Motors is aware of widespread valve body and transmission failures in these vehicles, yet continues to produce and sell new units while failing to ensure parts are available to support timely repairs. It is unacceptable that a major safety-related transmission issue can sideline a relatively new vehicle for over a month with no resolution in sight. GM’s lack of urgency in addressing this defect suggests a disregard for consumer safety and reliability. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this issue as a potential pattern of safety defects in GM’s full-size SUV transmission systems.

There currently is a serious recall on this vehicle and there is no remedy available. I’ve called the dealership and they confirmed this information. The service department claimed the sales department may be able to help me and then sales said it was a service dept issue. I have children who have been placed at risk as they have been traveling in this vehicle since April 2024.

Since purchasing the vehicle in September with 8 miles there have been several electrical malfunctions. Some “fix” themselves when I restart the vehicle and several have needed to go into service. The first issue was when my mirrors wouldn’t come back up when switching to drive. I disabled the reverse tilt option and had it serviced to be fixed. Apparently it needed an update. More recently I had several malfunctions. My vehicle would lower its self while still in gear, and it wasn’t the normal self leveling. I didn’t not have any warning lights or messages pop up. The next time I started my vehicle and had “service rear axle” warning. I called the local dealership and after restarting the vehicle several times and more error messages, I decided to attempt to drive the vehicle in, all the while recovering several message warnings. On the way I was increasingly loosing brakes and I rolled into their parking lot with no breaks. Since this episode I have had repeated lost connection codes without dash warnings. They first attempted to reprogram the brake control monitor. Then when it continued to lower itself and have other malfunctions it went back into service. They replaced the serial data gateway and reprogrammed it. Since then the vehicle is having lost communication codes every day. It is currently in service to try and figure out what’s causing it and hopefully fix it.

On March 21, 2025 my 2024 GMC Yukon Denali's engine died while driving 80 miles an hour down the highway with my family. We were able to coast to the shoulder. The vehicle would not restart. We called a tow truck. When the tow truck arrived the vehicle started but we decided to take the vehicle to closest GMC dealer. They ran diagnostics on the lights that were showing on the dash and nothing was reported. They had no recommendations. We were 3 hours from home returning from Spring Break so we decided to keep traveling. We made it about 120 miles and again the engine died while traveling 70+ miles on the highway. We were able to safely coast to the shoulder. We called a tow truck and the Yukon was towed to the local GMC dealership. The next week it was reported to me that the Yukon would need a new engine. The 1, 3, 5 rod bearing had spun and the 3rd trust bearing had spun. Since there were no rental cars in the city available we rented a U-Haul truck and drove 2 hours home. Almost one month later we are awaiting the new engine to be delivered.

While driving down the interstate the vehicle lost power without warning and gave a command to "press start to resume" tried to do that but nothing happened. Eventually we were able to get over to the shoulder of the interstate which was super busy in Atlanta. Once we stopped, we shut off the vehicle and it started back up, and we proceeded to get back on the interstate, when the same thing happened. We stopped again, waiting a few minutes and were able to get back on the interstate and complete out trip without any issues. 3 days later while driving on the interstate again, the vehicle had a weird winding noise coming from it. Once I was able to get off the instate the engine was knocking very loudly and had no power. Got the vehicle to our home and had it towed to the dealership the next day. Dealership gave the diagnoses that a new engine, radiator and engine coolant lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle had 2,248 miles on it and was purchase 2.5 weeks prior. No eta on when we will have a new engine and our vehicle back.

On multiple occasions, more recently 03/28/2025, the windshield wipers would stop working. On 3/28/25 in pouring rain at night the front windshield wipers were working and then stopped. The rear window continued to work. I finally found somewhere to safely pull over and check fuses for front and back wipers. They were both good and I even swapped the fuses for front and back and the back wipers continued to work while the front would not. This continued on our our trip in rain and even the next morning the front wipers would not come on. An hour later driving (with the wiper switch in the OFF position) the front wipers came on. I switched the switch to on and they were functioning. This has happed several time in the 6 months of new ownership with the dealership denying they have ever heard of such a problem. As we arrived to our destination and telling the story to the other families we were meeting another family there said they just had the same exact problem on their 2024 Yukon denali on the trip too. This put 2 families in a very dangerous situation. As I google this problem there are multiple reviews of individuals with this same problem.

On February 14, 2025, my brakes went completely out in the school carline while picking up my youngest daughter. After the incident happened, I saw a light that read "Service ESC." This private elementary school is next-door to a private high school. There were students, teachers, and parents walking in this area at this time. I had to maneuver through this carline and away from faculty, students, and parents with no breaks. No individual was injured or killed but it could have been a very serious accident. I called GMC asking for help but was told through a chat line to bring the vehicle in for service. I was finally able to get my Yukon to the service department where after a few days it was determined my brakes failed and they were replaced. One day after I received the vehicle back from service, there was a horrible noise while driving but no lights showed on the dashboard, so it was returned to the same service department. They found metal shavings in my oil and I was told the lifters had collapsed and the engine failed. At this time, I have not heard from GMC and my vehicle is still in the service department.

The engine of my 2024 GMC Yukon Denali failed unexpectedly at 45 MPH, shutting off without warning and shifting into neutral. My wife, three passengers, and two dogs were in the vehicle, which coasted to a stop. After several attempts, it restarted, and the check engine light illuminated. Alpine Buick GMC confirmed catastrophic engine failure, requiring replacement of the engine, radiator, hoses, and other parts. The vehicle remains at the dealership, and the failed components are available for inspection. This sudden shutdown posed serious safety concerns. My wife lost control over acceleration and power steering, increasing the risk of an accident. Had this occurred on a highway or in traffic, the consequences could have been severe. This raises concerns about the engine’s reliability and potential risks to other drivers. Alpine Buick GMC confirmed the engine failure and the need for full replacement. I am the sixth customer awaiting this repair, indicating a broader issue. The estimated wait time for an engine is two weeks to three months, creating a significant disruption. Inspection by Manufacturer, Police, or Insurance The vehicle has been inspected by dealership technicians but not by GMC representatives, police, or insurance adjusters. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The engine suffered a catastrophic failure, including a bottom-end bearing failure, causing the camshaft to seize, the flywheel to shear off, and metal to spread throughout the engine, cooling system, and radiator. This also tripped the main fuse, resulting in an electrical short. The failed engine is currently at the dealership and is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was driving on a 55 mph highway when the engine completely shut off without warning. Losing all power while traveling at highway speeds was extremely dangerous, and I was barely able to glide the vehicle to the side of the road before it lost momentum. It is terrifying to think of what could have happened had I not been able to get out of the travel lane in time, especially with other vehicles moving at high speeds around me. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the dealership diagnosed the issue and confirmed the engine failure. They have determined that a full engine replacement is necessary. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been inspected by an authorized GMC dealership service center. I have not yet had it inspected by any other parties. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of th

Aside from constant electrical issues with the serial gateway module that gm refuses to replace many safety features fail regularly most importantly this replacement yukon for the 2023 with engine issues also has engine issues and the same 6.2L engine. When leaving my home and or driving on any decent up or downhill road and coasting the vehicle will misfire and trigger the MIL to flash. I’ve taken it into the dealer many times for this and in the end they say it’s a software problem with AFM disabling 5 cylinders. They claim that the geometry of the vehicle along with having 5 cylinders disabled causes the engine to vibrate enough to make it think it’s misfiring. this came from their factory field service tech. they refuse to fix it. they refuse to put this on paper. they told me if I wanted it fixed, I could buy a 2025 instead. this is insanity.

On [XXX], I was driving approximately 70 MPH on [XXX] when the engine stopped without warning. I had the vehicle towed to Causley GMC where it was repaired. I was on the way home from Causley driving on [XXX] when the engine stopped again. I had it towed back to Causley. The next day they called me and said that the engine was destroyed and needed to be replaced. Both times it stalled I was on the expressway and if I were not able to coast to the side of the road, I would have been in a very dangerous position for me and everyone else on the highway. There was not a warning before the engine stopped, so it was very fortunate for me that I had enough momentum to be able to coast far enough to get in a safe position.

2024 Yukon AT4 14,214 miles. I heard a metal dropping sound that morning but otherwise it acted fine. I thought something fell in the vehicle but nothing was there. No lights came on. Then later that day it just died at a light in town. Suddenly received low oil pressure warning and vehicle shutting off. Happened out of no where. Was able to start it and get off out of middle of road. It continued to die over and over and then finally wouldn’t start again. Towed to dealership. Dealership able to start it once there but stated check engine light was on. We called for an update after a week of waiting and were told that it needs a new engine.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
