First problem started back in May.. it’s went downhill ever since. Hard shifting was happening. GM dealer said I needed a new transmission. Found out from local repair shop that I needed a torque converter ($600) multiple transmission fluid changes (apparently many issues for A Lot of people) changed that. Then had to change Valve Body & TCM. ($540) everything started working but not 100% did a full tune up having multiple misfires constantly then shuttering when idle. Also replaced ECM ($200+)After changing all spark plugs, wires, oil, etc. the AC was having issues had been having issues for months. Kept adding Freon had to replace AC Condenser (works great now, was told by repair shop that’s also very common in these year models. Condensers are all weak in the same spot) just recently October 2022, my instrument cluster started going haywire. Gauges going off and on screens going blank. Had Alternator and battery tested both test fine. No loss of power but when hitting the start/stop vehicle would continue to run and lock and unlock when it wanted. Husband took the alternator out to have it tested again. They tested 3x 1st. Good, 2nd Error, 3rd Bad ( it was overcharging at 16.5V) replaced Alternator ($290) gauges still going haywire, like before it is only sometimes, when they do it’s bad bad.. but I can also drive to town and back 20-30 miles and not the first issue. Just left GM with a new Battery Distribution Fuse Block ($153) because of course it can’t just be a regular

I purchased a 2017 GMC Yukon Denali brand new off the showroom floor. I have maintained the services thru GMC dealership. I had to replace the struts and rear and front shocks due to hydraulic system leaking and locking up my brakes and causing extra pressure on my braking system to stop my vehicle. This cost me over $5000 to replace out of my pocket and I saw there was a previous recall in 2019 for similar problem but i was told my issues were not covered under the recall. I have also had to replace both taillights within 2years of purchasing my brand new vehicle and now they are out again. This will be my second time having to replace the LED tail lights that cost over $375 light which were stated as never go out of lifetime guarantee. You cannot just replace the bulb you have to replace the whole tail light which takes weeks to come in and then additional labor costs. The previous
Presently my air conditioner in my 2017 Yukon Denali has went out around 55 thousand miles approximately .We called to make appointments many times & after several attempts finally my car was early one morning & left until about 4:30;no one called to tell my husband not myself that their machine was not working. So no I’m order to wait for another appt !Today June 27th they are finally checking my air conditioner.I received a call saying this would be 1200.00 dollars!I bought this car with 23 miles on it and 6 MONTHS AFTER I DROVE IT I TOLD MY HUSBAND SOMETHING DI NOT SOUND RIGHT NOR FEEL RIGHT .We tried to make Many appts for 3 years UNTIL GMC FINALLY ADMITTED THERE WAS A RECALL!!Im furious. My vechile would cut off in the middle of a main Hwy with my 9 year old with me.Automatic brake will stop me at 55 mph ;for no reason .Windows down sound like you are in a wind tunnel !!Sun roof leak .Middle console latch just stopped working .ENGINE PROBLEM STILL NOT FIXED & UNDER LEMON LAW AFTER 3 attempts,& with all the lies many GMC LOCAL DEALERS HAVE TOLD ME DUE TO JUST NOT WANTING TO ADMITT THE TRUTH.I feel unbelievably frustrated.
Driver’s side rear Tail light stopped working. It’s not even 5 years old. Bought August 2017 Brand new. I know there is a recall on 2015-2016 models for the same problem.
Low speed breaking failure.
My vehicle began shuddering during acceleration and would violently jerk forward after gas pedal was engaged with decreased power in forward acceleration and increase in rpm. This last a couple of weeks. Now, my vehicle is completely broke down and at a GM certified service center. The Service manager states torque converter completely went out and the transmission is burnt up. The mileage is at $61,000, so GM warranty won’t cover it and the company that holds the extended warranty I purchased hasn’t been able to be successfully contacted. There is a “service” bulletin but no recalls and a class action lawsuit (that I’m not a part of) but no recall. My vehicle completely lost power going 50mph on a busy road without warning. This needs to be a recall due to this dangerous circumstance.
-Back brake light system failure. -Safety of a rearend accident compromised when tail light does not work properly. -Yes, a repair shop confirmed the $975 unit needs to be replaced and is on back order for one month putting our safety at risk. -No warning has appeared. A person behind me reported it to me.
Passenger brake light stop working. Had the dealer ship inspect the light and was informed that the whole unit had to be replaced at a cost of $1000. so I purchased the part for $800. and replaced it myself tech. informed me that GM had a recall on the 2015 and 2016 model's but has not included the 2017 model year
Rear tail / break light no longer works .
Brake light not working.
Water in 3rd brake light
Tail lights do not work when I press the brakes. I have been warned multiple times by drivers.
Both the passenger and driver side tail lamps have failed and the assembly had to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop sign, the brake pedal was depressed however, the passenger’s side rear taillight failed to illuminate. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,570.
Taillights and Brake light LEDs go out unexpectedly or work intermittently creating a safety hazard that drivers behind the Yukon are unable to see your taillights at night or when your braking causing Potential rear end collisions. For this common problem GM recalled the taillights of 2015-16 models, but the 2017+ models that still have the same exact taillights with the same issue but has not been recalled yet. Costing owners out of warranty $800 per taillight assembly. Please look into this safety issue.
The left rear tail light has gone out. There is no user replaceable bulb and this is a sealed unit. The deal has quoted almost $800 to replace. I feel a sealed unit should not fail prematurely and should last the entirety of the life of the vehicle. Had it been user serviceable, this would be a simple repair/fix.
Brake light on the passenger side has failed and non operational. I have researched this and found it is way to common to not be a manufacturer design issue.
LED taillights have both gone out. One was replaced by a "service bulliten" and it didn't cost us. The other recently went out at approx 80k miles. These are supposed to last the life of the vehicle. Replacement cost is $750. After doing research, there is a recall for 2015-2016 GMC Yukon taillights that are the exact same product. I contacted GMC and they refuse to replace the known defect part. This is going to cause someone to get seriously hurt. They know the part is defective or they wouldn't have had a recall on the 2015-2016 models.
The transmission failed while merging and almost caused a collision. After a complete transmission replacement, the fuel injectors failed causing the same issue. GM extended fuel injector warranty due to the number of similar issues, but not in my state.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while using the remote start-up feature, he noticed that the rear passenger's side brake light and taillight were inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that the taillight assemblies needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 41,169.
Air-Conditioning condenser failure (Special Coverage Adjustment 173326 Air Conditioning Condenser (Combi-Cooler) Refrigerant Leak) According to GM they say my VIN is not on the list...however, I'm having the exact same issue on my 2017 Yukon with 38k miles on it.
My tail light is faulty. It is working some, shorts out, stops working, I hit a bump, it starts working again. Almost caused a crash, the lady followed me to the store to tell me it was out. Took it to the mechanic and it was working again without any repair. Does this everyday.
My car is not shifting right. I took it into GMC, and they said they corrected it. I have taken in two times for this issue already. Today I almost was in a car accident because the car would not shift properly and it shoved me forward like A car hit me from the back. The car is not shifting properly at all. And now it’s making a muffling sound and it’s like stuck in a gear. I pulled over and I parked and then I reversed and then I went to hit the gas again to try to go slowly and it jolted forward again. This is serious and needs repaie
2017 GMC Yukon Denali 4WD. Rear passenger brake light intermittently fails while driving Confusing and causing motorists behind my vehicle to receive inconsistent intermittent brake warning lights to alarm other motorists I have stopped. Someone is going to end up slamming into me because of this. It’s a dangerous common failure that needs to be address ASAP. I’m not waiting but GM’s executive corporate office will get the entire bill plus time lost and another BBB review.
My husband and I were driving down the freeway with our three children when without any warning, we heard a loud explosion and what felt like something hit our vehicle. There were no other cars near by. When we pulled off the freeway into a gas station to look at the vehicle the sunroof had a huge hole in the center. The remaining class attached to the vehicle was all shattered. There was shattered class on the closed shade. We didn't know what happened. It was very traumatizing. We thought someone threw something at us or something had fallen on the vehicle. If the sun shade wasn't closed, glass would have entered the vehicle and could have caused injury to us or our children in the back seats.
The driver's side brake light and tail light has failed completely and the passenger side brake light and tail light fails intermittently. This is a safety issue that should be recalled. The vehicle only has 50k miles on it and I should not have to pay $800 per tail light to fix it!
The steering wheel doesn’t always turn back straight like the electric power steering has a momentary lapse in working.
Brake lights quit working
There is a known issue with the GMC strutts leaking. I contacted several GMC dealerships to purchase strutts so that a local mechanic could put fix my truck without the dealership pricing. GMC refuses to sell the parts to anyone other than a dealership. I was informed by several dealerships the part is a national back order for 6 months. The cost that GM is making for each person that purchased a 2017 Denali is between two to four thousand dollars!! While driving my truck myself and my daughter would come out of the seat! This should be a recall. I'm also reporting this to the consumer financial protection bureau. I phoned this in a month ago and have heard nothing.
BRAKE LIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY WORK. WILL COME ON SOMETIMES AND THEN GO OUT. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS STILL AND WHILE MOVING.
LEFT AND RIGHT BRAKING LIGHTS SOME TIME DO NOT WORK WHEN BRAKING. ONLY THE REVERSE LIGHT WILL WORK WHILE THE BRAKING LIGHT WILL NOT. TO ADD, WHEN THE FRONT HEADLIGHTS ARE ON, SOME TIMES THE LEFT AND RIGHT TAIL LIGHTS (LIGHT THAT IS ON WHEN NOT BRAKING) AND BRAKING LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK. I HAVE HAD TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE PULL UP NEXT TO ME SAYING MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE OUT IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. HOWEVER, I HAVE OBSERVED WHEN THEY ARE WORKING IN THAT SAME TIME SPAN. THE LAST TWO DAYS, ONLY THE RIGHT TAIL/BRAKING LIGHT IS NOT WORK.
DRIVER SIDE REAR BRAKE LIGHT ISN'T WORKING ANYMORE. 46K MILES ON A 2017 GMC YUKON.
BRAKE LIGHT FAILURE. BRAKE LIGHTS WORK INCONSISTENTLY. CHANGING THE BULB DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED BY NUMEROUS OWNERS. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE COMPONENTS HAVE TO BE REPAIRED BY A TECHNICIAN WHICH CAUSES HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS, PER LIGHT. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED!!!
WHEN TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS (10-20 MPH), I HAVE CONTINUOUSLY EXPERIENCED "LUNGING" AND "JERKINESS" WITH MY TRANSMISSION FOR OVER 2 YEARS NOW. DESPITE APPROXIMATELY A DOZEN SEPARATE EVALUATIONS AND/OR REPAIRS BY GM-CERTIFIED TECHNICIANS, THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO EXIST. I AM TOLD THAT THE ISSUE IS NORMAL AND THAT I MUST LIVE WITH THE ISSUE AS BEING NORMAL. NOT ONLY AM I CONCERNED ABOUT THE ONGOING MAINTENANCE COST, BUT THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND PASSENGERS SHOULD THE VEHICLE STRIKE AN OBJECT OR PERSON ACCIDENTALLY. ACCORDING TO VARIOUS ONLINE SOURCES, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF GM OWNERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR ISSUES, AND EVEN A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT HAS BEEN FILED. HOWEVER, THERE HAS BEEN NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OR MEANINGFUL RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS.
THE BRAKE LIGHT IS OUT AND A SINGLE TAIL LIGHT IS OVER 500$
MY 2017 GMC YUKON DENALI CONTINUES TO HAVE A VERY LOUD SHUDDER SOUND AS YOU ACCELERATE.
BOTH BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING AT THE SAME TIME. THERE IS NO FUSE. ONLINE REPORTS SHOW MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VERY DANGEROUS, HUGE SAFETY ISSUE OF THEIR BRAKE LIGHTS FAILING. THE CAR 3 YEARS 2 MONTHS OLD.
THE BRAKES STOP WORKING. BRAKE ASSIST COMES ON. WHEN I PRESS THE BRAKES YOU CAN FEEL THE PUMP IS NOT WORKING AT ALL. THIS IS HAPPENING AT SLOW SPEEDS MOSTLY IN PARKING LOTS BUT IN FEAR OF IT HAPPENING WHEN GOING FASTER. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP- DANGEROUS TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN AROUND IN A CAR WHERE THE BRAKES JUST STOP WORKING.
MY CAR A/C HAS A LEAK AT THE CONDENSER, THIS IS A DEFECT KNOWN BY GMC, THEY ONLY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY UP TO 60,000 MILES AND 72,000 ON CADILLAC, MY YUKON ACTUALLY HAS 71,500. THE REPAIR FOR THE GMC DEFECTIVE VEHICLE A/C IS EXTREMELY COSTLY TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS AND OVERPRICED LABOR.
IRREGULARITIES WHEN BRAKE IS PUSHED AT LOW SPEEDS. CAN FEEL VARIOUS ISSUES SUCH AS VIBRATING BRAKE PEDAL, STUTTERING NOISE, LOSS IN PRESSURE OF BRAKES AND NEEDING EXCESSIVE PRESSURE ON BRAKES TO STOP VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2-3 TIMES NOW, ONCE IN A PARKING LOT, IN A DRIVE THRU AND WHEN PULLING OUT/IN THE GARAGE.
TAIL AND BRAKE LIGHT NO LONGER WORKING
FRONT MAGNETIC SHOCKS QUICKLY FAILED, PART NO. SK3354. PART HAS BEEN ON BACKORDER FOR OVER A MONTH, WHICH MEANS IT IS FAILING ON MANY VEHICLES. PART IS KNOWN BY REPAIR SHOPS TO BE DEFECTIVE, BUT THEY SAY THE REPLACEMENT PART LASTS LONGER. GM SHOULD PAY SOMETHING TOWARD REPLACING THIS DEFECTIVE PART, WHICH IS ON MANY OF THEIR VEHICLES. FAILURE OF THIS PART CAUSES VEHICLE TO BOUNCE EXCESSIVELY WHICH MAKES THE VEHICLE MORE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL.
DRIVER SIDE REAR TAIL/BRAKE LIGHT GOES OUT WHEN OPEN AND CLOSE REAR HATCH. PASSENGER SIDE REAR HAS SAME ISSUE WHICH WAS RECALLED AND REPAIRED. TAP THE REAR QUARTER PANEL OR HIT A BUMP TAIL LIGHT WILL TURN OFF OR ON.
WHILE DRIVING, MY A/C CLIMATE CONTROL HAS FAILED IN 2017 GMC YUKON (MILAGE 78,734). THIS HAS CAUSED A DANGEROUS PROBLEM WHEN THE WINDSHIELD FOGGED UP AND I COULDN'T SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH FROM THIS INCIDENT DRIVING ON I270 HERE IN MD. I AM BOTH SHOCKED AND APPALLED THERE IS NO RECALL ISSUED AND THAT GM USED LEAKY AIR CONDITIONERS THAT BUCKLE UNDER PRESSURE IN MANY 2014-2017 TRUCKS AND SUVS. WHETHER IT'S BUSTED HOSES OR LEAKY CONDENSORS, THOUSANDS OF GM OWNERS LIKE ME ARE UPSET THAT A NATIONWIDE RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED TO REPAIR THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. IT'S SUCH A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THAT THERE'S A NATIONWIDE BACKORDER FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS. MANY OF THE ORIGINAL REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE DISCONTINUED TO TO THE DEFECT. SEE TSB PIE0340. ALONG WITH THE ALLEGED PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPRESSOR TO CONDENSER LINES, A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SAYS THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSERS ARE DEFECTIVE BECAUSE THE MATERIALS USED TO MANUFACTURE THE CONDENSERS ARE DEFECTIVE. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL SHOP TO FIND OUT MY CONDENSER NEEDS REPLACING AND THE SERVICE TECH TOLD ME IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY BUT HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CONDENSER ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE . HE ALSO AGREED WITH ME THAT IT SHOULD BE A RECALL SINCE THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY VEHICLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. MY DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME $160 JUST TO DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THIS PROBLEM FIRST NOTED IN BULLETIN # PIE0340 DATE: JUL 2015. THEN THEY ESTIMATE RE

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
